It seems like Fran has decided to take single-handedly revive the tier two competitive Overwatch scene herself. Fran’s Overwatch Community Cup - an online tournament with over $6,000 in prize money, well-liked hero bans and a slew of strong Overwatch Contenders and Open Division teams ready to take center-stage on May 4th. Fran announced recently the 16 teams set to compete in the tournament.

There are a lot of talented tier two and tier three teams participating including Team Doge who consist of the players recently released from Team Envy following their exit from Overwatch Contenders. There is no shortage of strong teams present in this incredible, little tournament. It should be a good time with a lot of good Overwatch especially since Mei, Orisa and Brigitte are all banned for the tournament to the benefit of… well everyone.

The prize pool started at a respectable $3,000 but has since grown to $6,000 plus through a few donations from people who want to see competitive Overwatch succeed, a well-discussed topic throughout the scene recently. The tournament will be single-elimination best of three until the finals when it will be the best of five. To make it even more enjoyable the tournament will feature a ton of talent at the casting position with notable casters including LemonKiwi, LEGDAY and others.

Fran’s Overwatch Community Cup has garnered a lot of excitement with competitive Overwatch fans and is another incredible showing of initiative from Fran who recently took home first place at the Echo Tournament with a team she built herself. It’s easy to see all the negative talk about tier two Overwatch dying, but it’s nice to witness those that actually care and these types of events are important.

To watch all the action starting Monday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m. PST head over to Fran’s Twitch Channel.
