The first full musical track from punk band, The Superweaks, has been featured in the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming punk music album/game split title, Teenage Blob, from developer Team Lazerbeam.
The gameplay trailer was posted to YouTube earlier this week, featuring one of the six tracks from The Superweaks that will be included in the game, as well as one of the games that players will get to play during their punk adventure.
The game, called “Paperperson”, is pretty much exactly what you might be expecting. After checking out the boots that the teenage blob wants to buy (which also happens to be one of the overarching goals of the game), they make their way back to work so as to make enough money to buy said boots.
As a bicycle-mounted naked sandwich delivery person, the teenage blob must toss sandwiches into the designated houses while avoiding obstacles along the way as they collect points for a job well done. Points can also be earned by throwing sandwiches through the windows of the houses that didn’t order sandwiches - which is a very punk rock thing to do.
An additional “mode” occurs in which the teenage blob rides down a 2D side-scrolling hill with the ability to hit jumps and perform tricks. It appears that the various modes are synched to the sections of The Superweaks’ backing track, and - while a bit random - seems like fun nonetheless.
As for The Superweaks’ track itseld, it sounds great and feels like it fits the personality of the game. Some of the gameplay’s sound effects are a bit overpowering, so hopefully, those levels will be adjustable to hear more of The Superweaks’ music.
At any rate, Teenage Blob is definitely a quirky game to keep your eye on, especially for fans who dabble in any of the genres that the game brings in, such as dating sims, RPGs, arcade classics, and rhythm games.
Teenage Blob is tentatively slated to release later this year for PC via Steam.
