Bandai Namco announced on July 31 that Tekken 7 will see its next major update this Fall with the launch of Season Pass 4. At the Bandai Namco’s Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable, the reveal confirmed that the new season will bring an update to character balance, brand new moves for all fighters, and online play improvements.

The update to character balance and new moves for all fighters is sure to be the most important part of the new season, potentially shifting the meta at the highest levels of play. At the very least, a new update should help certain underused, underpowered fighters find a more prominent spot in competitive play. This has certainly been the case following both Season 2 and 3, and we should expect nothing less in this next season.

Online play will be seeing some major improvements as well, especially with the addition of a WiFi indicator. This will allow players to properly gauge the connection of a potential opponent, and if that individual is playing on an unstable or low-quality connection, the decision exists to pass until a more suitable opponent is found. This is mainly a benefit to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users, however, as most PC players are already playing with a LAN connection.

This might also have a secondary effect of forcing players who mainly use WiFi to upgrade to a more stable LAN connection, which can often help greatly to ensure the best quality of match.

As for the character teaser at the end of the season, it is anyone’s guess as to who it might be. Based on the little information we have, a safe bet might be the return of Kunimitsu or Jun, but it could really be anyone at this point.

Unfortunately, one feature that players have hoped to see for years remains notably absent – crossplay among all platforms. It is a shame that this is still not a standard feature for Tekken 7, because crossplay would allow for shorter queue times and broaden the number of players substantially, allowing for the closest skill-based matchmaking possible.

Still, Season 4 looks great so far, and we cannot wait to get more information about exactly what lies ahead in terms of balance for all fighters!
