Telltale releases a new patch for Batman: The Telltale Series PC in the hopes of improving performance, but some players are still reporting issues with lag, framerates and more.
Earlier this week, the release of Telltale’s latest episodic saga, Batman: The Telltale Series, was met with heavy criticisms from PC players. Batman: The Telltale Series PC launched with a series of bugs and problems that made the game unplayable – from graphical issues, to sound that’s out of sync with the visuals and even mouse cursors getting stuck in an invisible box – and the game’s Steam page was hit with an avalanche of negative reviews as a result.
But right as players began to fear that they’d be forced to wait for months for a fix, as was the case with Batman: Arkham Knight PC’s issues, Telltale has now released a patch for the game in the hopes of improving PC performance.
In a post on the game’s Steam page, Telltale says that it is “aware that some users have experienced performance issues.” The developer also dismissed suggestions that its new game engine was the reason for the issues, explaining that “many of these issues appear to have been due to running the game on integrated graphics cards rather than dedicated, or were the result of out of date drivers.” Addressing the problem, Telltale tells people to “be sure that your drivers are up to date before running the game,” with the patch leading the game to automatically default to running on a dedicated graphics card as well as adding graphics setting to “enable selection of Higher Performance Textures or Higher Quality Textures.”
According to the comments of Telltale’s post, updating drivers and installing the patch has only improved performance for some. Others disgruntled players are still saying that their FPS rates are in single digits, controller support is still broken and some are even reporting new errors such as lost save files and the fact that their copy of Batman: The Telltale Series now refuses to load.
While Telltale will continue to have a challenge on its hands as it works on fixing the rest of these problems, the developer also says that it anticipates “a launch of the Mac version very soon.” Batman: Arkham Knight PC had such a troubled time that its Mac and Linux ports were cancelled. Those hoping to play Batman: The Telltale Series on Apple systems will be waiting with bated breath then, crossing their fingers that they will still get to play despite the ongoing problems with the PC version.
