Be prepared for tears, my friend. Telltale’s (now Skybound’s) The Walking Dead videogame has a place in the hearts of every story-rich gamer. We have had four seasons full of losses and wins, of blood, sweat and tears.

Throughout the series we have been introduced to many different unique characters, some who immediately get killed off, and others who have a fighting chance. In the mix of all of these characters you have the weak and the strong. Who could handle surviving at all costs? Who broke down under the pressure?

10 STRONGEST: Lee Everett

We, of course, have to put Lee down as one of the strongest characters in the video game series. Lee was on his way to prison for murder when the apocalypse hit his area and was under no obligation to help Clementine when he found her. In fact, off that bat we would assume he wouldn’t even be the type to protect a little girl when he’s facing murder charges on his way to prison!

Not even knowing how to be a father, Lee took this little girl into his arms at once and taught her every single thing she needed to know to survive. He would risk his life for her, and he did. Absolutely nothing was stopping him from making sure Clementine was okay and it was her word over any adults or any other child.

9 WEAKEST: Ben

Ben couldn’t have been more frustrating in season 1 for the player and everyone else in the game! Being a young, insecure boy, Ben was never prepared or ready for anything and never learned how to handle stress and listen to orders.

Being such a scaredy cat almost put others in danger, costing their lives over his, and he never took responsibility for his actions. Overall, Ben has cowardly tendencies that make him weak when survival of the fittest is the reality they live in.

8 STRONGEST: Clementine

Anyone who has ever played Telltale’s The Walking Dead video game series will agree that Clementine is one of the most strong-willed characters, if not THE strongest of all. Clementine basically had to grow up during a zombie apocalypse, and faster than most kids had to because of the conditions. She found herself alone without her parents and to never meet them again during the scariest moments of her life.

Not only was she parentless and young, surrounded by danger, but she was also adopted by a man who protected her for months that felt like years, the only person she could turn to and cry to, just to have to kill him so he doesn’t turn into one of them. Tragedy and turmoil didn’t end there for Clementine, and she continues to struggle to survive for Lee and for her own Clementine, AJ.

7 WEAKEST: Sarah

Sarah’s character is somewhat like that of Duck’s from season 1, except less entertaining when things get frustrating. Sarah is a sheltered child. The reality of what’s going on in the world and what needs to be done to live day to day was clearly kept from her and the people around her refused to let her grow up. Perhaps they wanted to keep one innocent thing in the turmoil of it all, but at what cost?

Sarah is a puppy who, while she doesn’t know how to protect herself and what the right moves to make are, she had her father to run to and listen to. But when her father isn’t around, helplessness ensues. She is one of the weakest, and not by her own faults, but by that of those who had the power to teach her otherwise and didn’t.

6 STRONGEST: Carley

As soon as things turned south, Carley had her green light on and was ready for everything and everything. It’s as if she was made for times like these, to help make decisions, be dependable and guide those who don’t know better.

Carley was a reliable, bad-ass character who could take anything, and if her life wasn’t cut short by someone… it probably would have been her protecting Clementine after all these months.

5 WEAKEST: Kate

The world may be falling apart, my husband may be controlling a band of thugs that killed his own daughter, we may have children to protect, but I just must know if my husband’s brother loves me back!

It seems that Kate loves to try romance at random times when we should be focusing on survival and not getting children killed. She seems to prefer to have a love affair and do drugs before surviving and making sure her family is okay. Though it can be innocent and refreshing to some at times, it’s at the wrong times when there are other things to worry about first.

4 STRONGEST: Kenny

It’s a 50\50 chance when it comes to hating or loving Kenny’s character in the game. He was there through thick and thin, and never forgets Lee or Clementine when reunited in season 2. But he has always had anger issues, and being a hothead causes problems between relationships, trust, and decision making.

Kenny is one of the strongest nonetheless, because he has continued to fight to survive and kept hope while also continuing to protect the new family in his life, even after losing his previous one. He had to shoot his own son who was turning into a zombie and later find that his wife killed herself, and none of that stopped him from continuing on. He found new love and continued to help Clementine and AJ when Clementine no longer had Lee.

3 WEAKEST: Tennessee

Tenn is a soft-hearted young boy who wishes only for his protective sisters. Being locked up in a school for kids during the end of the world may not help his growth all that well, but the loss of his missing sisters cuts him too deep to focus in dire times.

Tennessee is easy for enemies to manipulate, and that’s why he is one of the weakest links in the series and in the season itself.

2 STRONGEST: Christa

Christa is another character that prevailed and continued to survive and look for hope, even when everything was taken from her. This seems to be a theme where people continue on, if only to protect Clementine because Lee isn’t here.

Christa had a partner and a baby, both of whom didn’t make it, and even at her (presumably) end she risked her life to make sure that, if anything, Clementine got out alive.

1 WEAKEST: James

James is on the weakest spectrum of this list because, although he is very good at surviving and creating tactics to maneuver dangerous situations, he doesn’t want to kill. Believing that killing any living thing is super wrong can get you or others killed when you’re in an apocalyptic world where the dead start walking.

He thinks that young children shouldn’t be taught how to survive, defend, and protect themselves, even if that means killing something. This narrative is dangerous in a dead-walking world where evil people rise to the surface and zombie hordes can be manipulated.
