Ghostbusters: The Video Game is receiving a remastered port for modern systems that is due to be released in 2019.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game was an action-adventure game that was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows in 2009, with separate versions released for the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable in the same year. The game was notable for bringing back all the main cast members of the movie to reprise the role of their famous characters. Ghostbusters: The Video Game is seen by many as the closest thing the fans would ever see to a third movie in the series, especially now that Harold Ramis is no longer with us.
Saber Interactive has announced that they are developing a remastered version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game with improved visuals. There is no word on whether the game will include any new content outside of aesthetic upgrades.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is set two years after the events of Ghostbusters II and it stars the original four members of the team from the movies, with characters like Janine Melnitz and Walter Peck also appearing. The player takes on the role of a new recruit who joins the team just as a PKE shockwave hits Manhattan and causes ghost sightings to drastically increase, which leads them on a journey to discover more about the life of Ivo Shandor - the leader of the cult of Gozer and the architect behind the events of the first movie.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game was met with decent reviews upon release, but the negative reaction to the 2016 Ghostbusters movie caused a retroactive wave of support for the game. There is a Ghostbusters 3 in development, but it likely won’t be the true third entry that fans have wanted for decades. Ghostbusters: The Video Game is an entertaining ride for those who are only casually acquainted with the movies, but to the fans, the game represents their only chance to see a glimpse of a movie that was never made.
Ghostbuster: The Video Game Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in 2019.
