I’ve lost track a bit, but I believe it has been 1,127 years since Nintendo hosted a “Maximus Cup” in its battle royale puzzler Tetris 99. The excruciating wait is finally over, though, and Nintendo will be having another tournament this weekend. Running from April 24 until April 27, the special theme up for grabs this time is based around Ring Fit Adventure.
All you’ll need to do to acquire this theme is play some online battles in Tetris 99 during the allotted time. Regardless of your place in the battle, you’ll earn event points that will eventually tally up to 100. Once you get there, the shiny theme will be yours.
Thankfully, if you happen to miss this event, all hope isn’t lost. In an update late last year, Nintendo added the ability to unlock past event themes with banked tickets. You’ll have to complete a series of daily challenges to gain 30 tickets, but it’s better than completely missing out on something.
Maybe it’s impossible to actually buy and play Ring Fit right now, but this Tetris 99 theme is a good way to pretend you’re working out. Maybe if you jump up and down when you score combos, it’ll be a decent facsimile of the experience.
