One of the oldest and most popular video games of all time is getting another added twist. N3TWORK’s Tetris on mobile is adding the ability to win real-life cash prizes daily.
Tetris is one of the most iconic video games of all time. Whether it’s the classic Game Boy version from three decades ago or continual variations today, the puzzle game is the best kind of addictive and replayable. The Tetris game on mobile, developed by N3TWORK, brings the fun of the game on the go. But now the game is being updated with something that the Game Boy version couldn’t dream to accomplish.
Tetris Primetime is coming to the mobile app and it is a “mix between a live television show and a video game tournament.” Players will be able to play for over a million dollars in yearly prizes. The details sound similar to the mobile trivia game HQ, which went from massive success to disappointing failure rather quickly. Although HQ has recently made a return.
Players will be able to log on at 7:30 pm in cities around the globe, including Auckland, Perth, Moscow, Berlin, London, New York City, and Los Angeles. The developers are calling these locations “anchor” cities. The game/game show will be hosted by Millen Baird, best known for Housebound (2014), one of the more obscure and uplifting horror movies of late.
Along with the new Tetris Primetime game within the Tetris mobile app, N3TWORK also recently revealed a battle royale within the game, and this will also be updated into the Tetris mobile app. It is likely that it will play similarly to Tetris 99, the popular and still evolving Tetris game on the Nintendo Switch.
Tetris is more than just an infinitely replayable puzzler, as the game has had countless successful spin-offs. The series has even made its way to VR, with Tetris Effect being leaked and eventually launched on the Oculus, after first coming to the PS4.
There have been so many wonderful Tetris games that it is even possible to make a top 10 Tetris games list, something that cannot be said for most puzzle game franchises. Many would claim that the mobile version of Tetris deserves to be on the list, but time will tell if Tetris Primetime in it of itself will go down as one of the best Tetris experiences.
Tetris is available now on iOS and Android
