The University Interscholastic League (UIL) in Texas has proudly announced they are now exclusively sponsored by the global esports organization and tournament platform Generation Esports (GenE). This sponsorship allows GenE to introduce over 3,000 Texas high schools and middle schools to its esports tournaments and resources.

In support of this sponsorship, GenE will establish its High School Esports League (HSEL) and its Middle School Esports League (MSEL) in the state. They have also scheduled a state-wide Super Smash Bros: Ultimate tournament for this coming fall.

According to the press release sponsorship announcement, the UIL is the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world, providing extracurricular academic, athletic, and recreational activities to schools. GenE was created by the founders of the High School Esports League, united under the banner of using video games to help today’s youth engage in community and competition, and in building quality relationships.

“Generation Esports is honored to be an exclusive sponsor of the prestigious University Interscholastic League,” said Mason Mullenioux, co-founder and CEO of Generation Esports. “Our company is excited to share our knowledge of esports events and initiatives with Texas.”

The GenE student esports leagues feature a variety of prominent esports titles, including FIFA 20 (HSEL), Hearthstone (HSEL), Just Dance (MSEL), Madden 20 (HSEL), Mario Kart (MSEL), Minecraft (HSEL and MSEL), NBA 2K20 (HSEL and MSEL), Overwatch (HSEL), Rocket League (HSEL and MSEL), Super Smash Bros: Ultimate (HSEL and MSEL), and more.

The UIL and GenE partnership will allow Texas students to create and compete against esports club peers in year-round seasonal tournaments. School educators will also benefit, by having access to the GenE HSEL Gaming Concepts curriculum. This free program, developed by Dr. Kristy Custer and Mr. Michael Russell, and in partnership with Microsoft, is designed to use video games and esports to improve students’ academic performance and attendance, and to teach social and career skills they’ll need throughout college and beyond. The program has shown great success where it has been implemented, with students becoming more engaged in their schools’ activities, higher GPAs, and improved career prospects.

“We are pleased to have GenE, an innovative platform dedicated to improving and engaging our communities, as an exclusive sponsor and supporter of the University Interscholastic League,” said Dr. Charles Breithaupt, Executive Director of the UIL.
