Daydreaming about fan-made console designs is something specific to gamers. It has been done since the dawn of the first console. This phenomenon has been furthered by the Adobe Suite craze and the ability to post your artwork online. Because of the PS5’s relatively plain canvas, the possibilities are just about endless, which brings about good and laughably bad ideas.

One tantalizing entry after another, these mockups are sure to get a PS5 owner’s mouth watering and their wallets grumbling. Here are some of the handpicked, coolest, and best fan-made custom PS5 consoles.

10 Pikachu

“What’s Pikachu got to do with anything?” you might be asking. Well, a design like this was bound to happen, since it’s a popular trend to take existing Pokemon and slap their likeness on Sony consoles. Specifically Pikachu. A lot of Pikachu. A really cool feature about this one, created by BossLogic, is that the triggers are Pokeballs. It really shows the versatility of what you can do with a controller.

Staring into Pikachu’s eyes after a long day of work might not be the kind of de-stressor everyone is seeking, so don’t worry if this isn’t your thing.

9 Ghost of Tsushima

This sensationally sleek design done by XboxPope is one that will please players and design aficionados alike. Japanese letters sprawl all over the plate in smooth, delicate touches. Centered in the middle is the bloody red mark of the Sakai Clan, offsetting some of the profuse darkness.

Reports have stated that Ghost of Tsushima is one of the games that really benefitted from an upgrade to Sony’s new console. Therefore, owning a companion PS5 would just be the icing on the cake.

8 The Luxury Collection

If you’ve somehow amassed some wealth, perhaps you’d be interested in Truly Exquisite’s line of luxury PS5’s. Coming in three colors, the UK brand plans to ship these out in the next month or two. While they might not be the most unique alternatives, perhaps any option over the standard white PS5 is enough to drive a bargain.

From higher to lower, the prices are as follows: Platinum is £8199 ($9732.21), Rose Gold is £8099 ($9613.51), and Gold is £7999 ($9494.81). Take your pick but probably not all three.

7 God of War

Posted by Twitter user GodofWar_ES, this design is literally the embodiment of Kratos. Though the original source is unknown, this image has garnered both positive and negative reactions mainly due to its overcompensation in the symbol department, rather than simplicity.

Fans, no doubt, would love to get their hands on one of these if they were real, especially with the expectation of the God of War sequel coming out.

6 Mortal Kombat

XboxPope strikes again. Whipping together a scaly, mean dragon and a whole lot of gold, the Mortal Kombat PS5 is artsier than most mockups. It leaves a lot to be admired, from the way the talons almost reach out of the frame to the emblazoned logo gamers all know and love.

Though no plans for a new Mortal Kombat game have been announced, the PS5 upgrade is well worth some battles in the meantime.

5 Cyberpunk 2077

Riding on the hype of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, XboxPope delivered this magnificent mockup using the game’s dominant color scheme. Trailing from top to bottom in cybernetics, the words stand out enough not to be distracting. You can see the controller has some gorgeous turquoise triggers, a lot more attractive than if Pope opted to stick with the black.

A lot of folks have speculated just how amazing this game is going to look and play. The gameplay trailers so far have done a stellar job at demonstrating the variability in the world and the choices the players are able to make.

4 Kobe Bryant NBA 2k21

A tip of the hat to Reddit user Anakin5kywalker for this heartfelt design in tribute to one of basketball’s greatest. Any Lakers fan will immediately be drawn to the yellow and purple colors, complimenting each other quite well. Iconic number 24 is immortalized on the controller.

The Mamba version of NBA 2K21 features a younger Bryant mid-dunking on the cover. The cover featured in this image didn’t make the cut for the PS5 edition, but the thought behind it is appreciated.

3 Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Giuseppi Spinelli’s crisp latticing, attention to detail, and wicked color direction make this the take-home treat we’ve been waiting for…if only it were real. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has taken the world by storm, web-swinging players along to new heights and adventures. It would only feel right if he were given his own special edition PS5 like the Spider-Man before him.

Sony is no stranger to the idea of bundle packs, and with Miles Morales doing so well, it would be silly not to consider this in the grand scheme of things.

2 The Last of Us Part II

The Last of Us Part II is a game laced with controversy. Though many would be hard-pressed to dissuade people of its graphical merits, the story is a bit of a harder topic to chew. It featured grotesque displays of violence with no regard for the player’s autonomy.

Regardless, the unknown designer of this PS5 really embraced the unique parts of The Last of Us, including its stark typography. The flora on the side of the console brings to mind the outdoorsy, adventurous nature of the game.

1 Classic PlayStation

Bringing it to the beginning, a PS1-inspired PS5 could actually be something Sony considers. After all, it’s a family tree at this point, 25 years in the making. It’s amazing how much the brand has grown in these years, and calling back to those times would surely bring joy to their most loyal fans. Known as “Matt PS5,” this custom mockup was created by Jace_Skell.

Legitimately, this was something that the PS4 already did for its 20th anniversary, but why not? Might as well celebrate the PlayStation’s success.
