Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town sees players taking on their grandfather’s old farm and breathing some life back into it. As well as raising livestock, planting crops, expanding the farm, and repairing farm facilities, players can also craft a variety of items to help them run their farm more efficiently.
So what are the best items that you can use to make life a little easier on your farm? We’ve got the top ten listed right here, explaining exactly why these items are a massive help, as well as exactly how to get them.
10 Jewelry Crafting Recipes
When it comes to raising your Friendship Level with the various characters of Olive Town, one of the easiest ways to do this is by giving them gifts. Each character has their own preferences when it comes to gifts that they like, but all of them respond well to the jewelry items sold in the General Store in town.
The downside to this is that they’re not exactly cheap when purchased. Fortunately, you can craft them yourself. These recipes can be unlocked by raising your Communication Level, with the first recipe being the Jewelry Ring that unlocks at Level 2.
9 Fishing Bait Recipes
You can start fishing as soon as you obtain the fishing rod by visiting Manuela in town. Fish are great for cooking, selling, and donating to the museum’s aquarium. However, as you start to narrow down your best recipes or the remaining fish you need for the aquarium, you might get a little tired of always fishing up the same species.
However, as you increase your Fishing Level, you will unlock various fishing bait recipes for particular species or for fish of a certain size, meaning that you can hone in on the fish that you want the most.
8 Suction Pump
After your first day of rain, you will be given the bucket tool to drain puddles and ponds. Draining allows you to obtain new items, with ponds even yielding items that have the potential to be treasures that you can donate to the museum.
However, as you start to expand your farm and get access to lakes that you can drain too, your little bucket is simply not going to cut it. That’s where Suction Pumps come in. These make draining a lot easier and you can set more than one up to make lakes drain even faster. You unlock the Suction Pump recipe at Draining Level 5 and it requires 10x brick and 5x silver ingot to create. You’ll also need to craft some refined coal to power these, the recipe for which is unlocked at Mining Level 5.
7 Jewel Maker
Mining will become a key task of yours as you’ll need to head into the mines to get plenty of ore to make ingots. However, a nice little bonus to mining is that you will often find raw gemstones. You can then process these raw gemstones into jewels by using the Jewel Maker.
This is a worthwhile investment as you can sell jewels for a decent amount of money, use them for gifts, or use them to create jewelry. You unlock the Jewel Maker at Mining Level 6 and it requires 5x iron ingot, 10x silver ingot, and finally, 1x raw diamond to make. At Mining Level 10 you unlock the Giant Jewel Maker, which allows you to process more raw gemstones at a time.
6 Seed Maker
Planting crops and flowers is one of the best ways to make money, and the higher quality your crops are, the more money you will make. The downside to this is that the General Store only sells the basic bronze quality seeds, so it’s more of a chore to get decent crops from these seeds.
However, once you reach Fieldwork Level 6, you will unlock the Seed Maker, which allows you to take your good quality crops and turn them into seeds of the same standard, so you can further enhance your next batch of veggies. The recipe requires 5x supple lumber, 5x gold ingot, and 10x wood charcoal to make. At Fieldwork Level 10 you unlock the Giant Seed Maker, so you can process even more seeds in one go.
5 Ingot Maker
You’ll be making a lot of ingots during your time on the farm, as there are a variety of ores that can be made into different ingots, all of which are used for crafting, farm repairs, and the upgrades of tools. You unlock the Ingot Maker at Mining Level 2 and it only needs 10x iron ore and 10x logs to make.
It’s worth making more than one of these so you can make more ingots at a time, as you will really need a lot of these. At Mining Level 10 you unlock the Giant Ingot Maker, which allows you to process more ore into ingots at a time.
4 Lumber Maker
Another Maker Machine that you will be using a lot is undoubtedly the Lumber Maker. It partners with the Ingot Maker in that both of the raw materials have a variety of types and both are often used in most crafting recipes, repairs, and upgrades.
You unlock the Lumber Maker at Logging Level 2 and it only requires 20x logs to make. This is another Maker Machine where it is wise to have more than one, so they can all be working at the same time and making lumber more efficiently. Once you reach Logging Level 10, you will unlock the Giant Lumber Maker.
3 Sprinkler
You’ll be growing a lot of crops and flowers on your farm, and you’ll soon grow tired of watering them all by hand. Luckily, there is a far easier option than hoping it rains every day, and that’s a Sprinkler.
Sprinklers will water the crops in the immediate vicinity around them and the recipe is simple enough to craft, as it requires only 5x iron ingots and 3x silver ingots. You obtain the Sprinkler recipe once you reach Fieldwork Level 4, and then you get the Enhanced Sprinker that has a wider range at Fieldwork Level 8.
2 Automatic Feeder
Taking care of your livestock will become a daily task on the farm, and feeding them fodder will quickly become rather annoying as you have to go into each and every barn and coop to refill the troughs. Fortunately, there is a better option — Automatic Feeders.
You need to reach Animal Care Level 6 in order to unlock this recipe, but it only takes 3x silver ingot to craft. You will need a silo to use this item too, which can be unlocked by repairing the dilapidated silo in the third farm area. Once you’ve got everything you need, you just set up an Automatic Feeder in each farm facility and then keep your silo topped up with fodder.
1 Orichalcum Tools
Your tools are the most important items that you will use in the game, well, most of them. Other than the leash and camera, you’ll be needing your tools to help you collect other resources and for general work on your farm such as tilling the land and clearing away rocks.
There are several upgrade stages when it comes to tools, but Orichalcum is the highest level, meaning that the tools are most effective when upgraded to this level. Upgrading your tools should definitely be a priority to make all of your gathering and farm work a whole lot easier.
