Hammers in Monster Hunter: World are a unique choice of weapon. Essentially, these weapons are blunt forces of nature that operate like Hulk from Avengers: they smash with powerful attacks. These weapons can be upgraded and can make even the strongest dragon fall to the ground.
According to Monster Hunter: World, “the hammer is a powerful blunt weapon with a surprising amount of mobility. It’s also possible to stun monsters by delivering a hammer attack to the head.” A desire to wield a hammer is subjective, but objectively speaking, they can be an effective and wonderful weapon. Here is a list of the top ten Monster Hunter: World hammer builds, ranked.
10 Ragefire Magda Floga
First on the list is the Ragefire Magda Floga and is a solid hammer to have in a hunter’s arsenal. It has a 1144 Attack Power, Green Sharpness, negative 20% Affinity, positive 20 Defense, and 240 Blast damage. Popularly styled with the Zorah Alpha Armor Set and the Zorah Beta Armor Set, this weapon can inflict a good amount of damage with its Blast Damage and Attack Power.
Like most weapons in Monster Hunter: World, the negative Affinity is never a good stat to have. The upside, though, is the positive 20 Defense and the very high Attack Power cancels out the negative Affinity.
9 Buona Flora
The Buona Flora is a really good hammer to use when first starting out. It has a 936 Attack Power, Blue Sharpness, 0% Affinity, and 540 Poison Damage. It even has two slots available! While it looks like a flower, it actually has spikes attached, turning this hammer into a highly valuable asset. While not all monsters will be affected by the Poison Damage, some monsters will be affected, which makes this another reason to keep this hammer around.
This hammer is also relatively easy to craft and farm early on in the hunting journey!
8 Obliteration’s Footfall
A solid pick, though highly unattractive. Essentially, this hammer has the same makeup as a combing brush. But despite its aesthetics, this is a hammer to be familiar with. It has a 1092 Attack Power, Blue Sharpness, 0% Affinity, 120 Dragon Damage, and a High Elderseal. Of course, this weapon is from the Nergigante Monster, the stats tell it all. Since this hammer is similar to Pandemonium Root, going back from this hammer to the aforementioned hammer wouldn’t be a bad tactic if you like familiarity.
This hammer comes from the Nergal Crusher and is styled with the Nergigante Alpha Armor Set and the Nergigante Beta Armor Set.
7 Taroth Hammer “Decay”
The Taroth Hammer “Decay,” derived from the Kulve Taroth Monster, is an exceptional weapon, contrary to what people may believe. The stats are as follows: 1040 Attack Power, Purple Sharpness, 0% Affinity, 270 Dragon Damage, and an Average Elderseal. In other words, it’s great for dragon hunting.
The Purple Sharpness combined with a 270 Dragon Damage and a level of Elderseal strikes this weapon as monster-ready and one to keep in the arsenal. Make sure you have the Kulve Taroth Alpha and Beta Armor Sets and you’re good to go!
6 Baan Strike III
Next on the list is the Baan Strike III, a weapon from the Radobaan Monster, and this weapon is also a weapon that is underestimated. While it only has 988 Attack Power, it has positive 20 Defense, Blue Sharpness, 0% Affinity, and 270 Sleep.
While Paralysis as a Damage is generally better, Sleep works best in group play since a group of hunters can strike quickly rather than just one hunter doing all the work. Best not to write off this weapon just yet, it can come in handy more often than you think.
5 Dawning Tranquility
This is a hammer build from Monster Hunter: World Iceborne. Dawning Tranquility has a smashing 1456 Attack Power, White Sharpness, 0% Affinity, 480 Dragon Damage, and a High Elderseal. All in all, there’s a reason Dawning Tranquility comes in at the top five of the list.
This weapon is from the Shara Ishvalda Monster, and pairs with the Shara Ishvalda Alpha and Beta Armor Sets. The only catch to this hammer is that it needs Free Elem/Ammo Up in order to unlock the Dragon Damage. After hunters achieve that, this hammer is one of the best in the arsenal.
4 Pandemonium’s Root
Pandemonium’s Root comes in at number four for one cool element: this hammer is an axe that looks like something out of Carnage from Spider-Man. Not only is this hammer-and-axe hybrid is really cool, but it also has a 1040 Attack Power, Blue Sharpness, 0% Affinity, 270 Dragon Damage, and an Average Elderseal. This hammer comes from the Vaal Hazak Monster and comes equipped with the strong potential to do some Elder dragon damage.
With one of the most striking designs in the game, it’s hard not to at least consider Pandemonium’s Root.
3 Royal Cross Mace
This is the second hammer build mentioned from Monster Hunter: World Iceborne and it is a lethal weapon from the 50 Shades of White/Master Rank Event Quest. It has a 1404 Attack Power, Purple Sharpness, 15% Affinity, and 510 Water Damage.
It has a 30 added defense bonus and is crafted with a Hero King Coin, three Namielle Hardclaw, five Large Elder Dragon Bone, and three Pure Dragon Blood. In other words, this build is a force to be reckoned with. There’s high availability to take down the monster that you’ve been stuck on for ages.
2 Devil’s Crush
Coming in at number two is the Devil’s Crush hammer build and there’s no doubt about how powerful this hammer is. It has 1196 Attack Power, Blue Sharpness, negative 30% Affinity, 210 Dragon Damage, and a High Elderseal. It’s super handy for dealing with Elder dragons in battles.
It can even go up to White Sharpness with the right handicraft. While the negative Affinity can make any hunter hesitate, the high Elderseal, Dragon Damage, and ability for White Sharpness negate the negativity. In addition, it also has two augmentation slots, allowing it to be an ultimate, powerhouse offering.
1 Diablos Shatterer II
The Diablos Shatterer II - not as visually appealing, but its power is completely unmatched. If your aim is to hit as hard as you can, Diablos Shatterer II is the weapon to have. It has 1196 Attack Power, Blue Sharpness, negative 25% Affinity, and 150 Ice Damage.
More information on this highly-desired weapon is that this weapon is from the Diablos Monster and is styled with the Diablos Alpha and Beta Armor Sets.
