There have been a number of solid titles released exclusively for the PS4 over the years. It’s an effective tactic to convince gamers to align with a particular console and PS4 chose some solid winners to represent their console.

Sports-themed games, RPGs, and some of the best horror titles that have ever been made have had exclusive releases on the PS4. According to Metacritic, the following titles are the best that the PS4 had to show.

10 MLB The Show 19 (Metascore 86)

The MLB The Show series has been performing well with fans and critics and 19 really hit it out of the park for many. Players were able to dive into the RPG aspects of the game to win games and rank high in tournaments. There were also a number of modes supporting player vs player.

For critics, the visuals of the game were absolutely stunning. The new game modes also went a long way to keeping the title feeling fresh and not another stale release in a long-running sports series. According to critics, it was a title that was worth the purchase even if players already owned the previous title.

9 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Metascore 86)

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is an action RPG full of characters, story, and a colorful world to explore. It was a change from Vanillaware’s previous titles in that it was entirely Sci Fi based rather than fantasy. The apocalyptic title had players contending with and piloting mechs as various factions sought control in a dying world.

Critics loved getting lost in that world. On the one hand, the story was rich and engaging and on the other, it was a tactical RPG that demanded strategy and careful planning. Players went into the game expecting a visual novel and were surprised to find that it was so much more.

8 Final Fantasy VII Remake (Metascore 87)

In the remake of Final Fantasy VII players were able to revisit the familiar world and characters in a story that remained faithful to the original with some new twists. The combat was overhauled giving the game a more action-packed feel while keeping the same tactical feel.

Many critics enjoyed the remake citing it as a game that held to its roots while standing on its own. A few felt the story was a little padded out, but the graphics, gameplay, and nostalgia overshadowed any issues the game may have had.

7 Bloodborne: The Old Hunters (Metascore 87)

The Old Hunters DLC expanded Bloodborne with new levels, bosses, and challenges to face. The expansion enhanced and furthered the story while introducing new questions and mysteries that players are still uncovering all these years later.

Critics didn’t favor the DLC as much as the original, citing the tremendous difficulty as the main reason. But for those ready for the challenge, it was a grueling and rewarding experience. If Bloodborne required players to become hunters to survive, The Old Hunters required them to become monsters.

6 Horizon Zero Dawn (Metascore 89)

Horizon Zero Dawn seemingly came out of nowhere to impress critics and fans alike. The player took on the role of Aloy, an outcast of a post-apocalyptic world populated by animalistic robots. As Aloy digs deeper into the creation of these robots and the origins of the tribal societies, she learns more about herself.

Many critics considered the gameplay to be addictive and engaging. There was a level of planning and strategy that went into each fight while keeping the action intense and thrilling. It was a world critics and fans alike were happy to get lost in.

5 Dreams (Metascore 89)

Dreams is something of a social network and content creation platform rolled into one. Players were free to create their own worlds and share them with others. The result is a limitless source of entertainment and creation for its community.

Many critics enjoyed the microcosm of creators and consumers Dreams was able to create. For many, it’s a sandbox of potential that’s as strong as its most dedicated creators. While there are some issues with ownership of said creations, for hobbyists it’s a dream.

4 Astro Bot: Rescue Mission (Metascore 90)

In Astro Bot players were tasked with saving their fellow bots who had been dispersed across the galaxy. Players needed to navigate levels and puzzles in this platformer designed to be used with the PS VR.

Many critics considered it to be a phenomenal VR game demonstrating the capabilities of the system and what it had to offer. For others, it was a solid platformer in spite of the technology. In both cases, critics agreed the level design, graphics, and sound design was stellar.

3 Shadow Of The Colossus (Metascore 91)

The classic Shadow Of The Colossus was dusted off and remade for the PS4. Players once again were charged with taking down the mighty colossi to obtain the power to revive their loved one.

Critics considered the remake to be a mix of nostalgia and modern that hit the right balance. It also did the impossible and conveyed even more emotion and meaning than the original had. Apart from the fresh coat of paint and modernized gameplay it was the same game, which was by no means a bad thing.

2 Bloodborne (Metascore 92)

Bloodborne took the punishing world of Dark Souls and bathed it in gothic architecture and blood. Players were charged with exploring the town of Yharnam to purge the city of evil. Or perhaps keep the cycle of chaos and death spinning longer.

Critics and fans loved the new darker and aggressive tone Bloodborne brought to the table. The game was hard, but it was always fair and critics couldn’t get enough of the city and the secrets only the most dedicated explorers could find.

1 The Last Of Us Part II (Metascore 93)

According to Metacritic the best PS4 exclusive game ever released was The Last Of Us Part II. In this title, Elle is dragged back into the outside world on a path of revenge. The result is a dark and haunting tale that left players reeling when the credits rolled.

While fans were divided on the game, critics thought it was a masterpiece. For some, it was a dark and gritty exploration of revenge and loss. The combat, new zombies, and improvements to the first game were top-notch and deeply rewarding. For others, the political messages and narrative alone were worth the praise.
