The PlayStation 4 is nearing the benchmark of reaching over 100 million units sold worldwide. This feat was accomplished largely due to the platform provided players with exclusive and 3rd party single-player games that took players breath away and carved out new quality standards in the AAA gaming space.

Whether they’re sequels to beloved franchises, brand new PlayStation owned IP, or 3rd party releases the PlayStation 4 is home to many great games. Here’s a look at the 10 best single-player campaigns on PlayStation 4, ranked.

10 Uncharted: Lost Legacy

As the assumed end to Nathan Drake’s story came to an end in Uncharted 4 fans were left wondering what was next. This is where Uncharted: Lost Legacy comes in, and boy did it do the beloved franchise justice. The game follows Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross as they try and hunt down the legendary tusk of Ganesh.

Both Laura Bailey and Nadia Black return to their roles from the mainline Uncharted games and deliver performances that make this spinoff feel like much more than that. This game manages to exclude the series’ main protagonist and deliver an authentic Uncharted experience.

9 Celeste

An indie 2D puzzle-platformer standing next to giants as one of the best PlayStation 4 games to be released should let you know up front just how good Celeste is. Not only does it offer rewarding escalating challenges, but it delivers an emotionally relatable story of someone trying to deal with their mental health.

Often times people don’t know how to cope with what’s going on in their own mind, but Celeste helps usher in the modern age of learning to overcome the stigma and deal with your mental health in a meaningful and open way with family and friends.

8 Red Dead Redemption 2

Very few games have seen the critical praise that Red Dead Redemption 2 received just prior to its release in 2018. Once it was in the hands of players there was a strong divide between people who loved every moment of the lush and deep open-world Western experience, and others who felt the controls and slow pace made it feel antiquated and unpolished.

For those who fell in line with critics and saw the masterpiece Rockstar had delivered, they’d yell from the mountain tops Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the 10 best games on PlayStation 4.

7 Persona 5

Despite releasing on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Persona 5 gave the world another dose of the Persona world that knocked it out of the park. Persona is a series that requires a ton of time investment, but the cast of characters and relationships grow on you in a way that makes it all worthwhile.

An ongoing conversation for consumers is the value derived from a $60 purchase of a game. Though value is a personal conclusion, there’s no denying that Persona 5’s 100+ hours will give you the most bang for your buck.

6 Uncharted 4

With Uncharted 4 fans weren’t only setting forth on another Nathan Drake adventure, they were gearing up for a PlayStation 4 flagship title that would bolster the lineup of games that made it impossible to not own the console.

Uncharted 4 gives fans a greater look at Drake’s family, past, and future and delivers some of the franchise’s best moments and set pieces. With the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4 and Uncharted 4 recently becoming a Greatest Hits title, there’s never been a cheaper and more convenient way to play through the entire series for the first or seventh time.

5 Horizon Zero Dawn

Who would have thought the developers of Killzone would eventually release an open-world game about a girl living in a post-post-apocalypse world where machines resemble prehistoric creatures?

Well, Guerilla Games managed to do exactly that when they released Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. As players took on the role of Alloy, they quickly found that this was a rich and magnetic world that felt ripe for exploration. When a new IP turns into a hit franchise that fans are now awaiting the sequel, it’s a truly special event in gaming.

4 Marvel’s Spider-Man

When Insomniac Games announced that they had partnered with Marvel Games and PlayStation to develop an original AAA Spider-Man game it seemed too good to be true. Insomniac was often considered the dream team for a Spider-Man game due to their experience with movement and showcase of how good they could make it feel with their previous release, Sunset Overdrive.

Marvel’s Spider-Man delivered an original Spider-Man experience, with exceptional web-swinging, and enough franchise touchstones that made it feel authentic to Peter Parker’s age-old story.

3 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

With Cyberpunk 2077 set to release in April of 2020, CD Projekt Red is set up to have back-to-back releases that fundamentally change what players think is possible in AAA role-playing games.

In their previous release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt they managed to take a semi-popular franchise mostly known by the PC community and deliver an experience that made them rockstars among console gamers. Not only is the game’s world rich with lore and exploration opportunities, their free post-launch and paid expansions set a new standard for consumer expectations.

2 Bloodborne

Whenever a new FromSoftware game releases it’s met with the expectation that it will be a solid experience at the very least. With the release of Bloodborne, they proved that they could move away from a fantasy setting and still deliver a world full of mystery, intrigue, and style.

After releasing the Dark Souls games on multiple platforms, it came as a surprise that FromSoftware would be releasing another PlayStation exclusive, their first since Demon Souls.Bloodborne is a master-class in gameplay and world design and can currently be purchased for around $20.

1 God of War

In 2018 Sony Santa Monica was met with the pressure of not only meeting fan expectations, but they carried the burden of trying to soft-reboot one of gaming’s most well-known franchises into something more meaningful.

Cory Barlog and his team managed to accomplish both of these things and turned Kratos from a one-note angry strong guy into an emotionally complex and relatable father. Doing that isn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination and the journey you experience along the way is breathtaking and truly remarkable.
