Yakuza has become a series that has grown every time they release a new title, starting in 2006 and continuing to today. While the main story is one of the wildest rides a person can get on, the side stories turn the levels up even further. Taking on a whole new level of absurd and unexpected, some of the games most memorable moments live in the substories.

Covering areas for all players, you’ll never know if you’re going to get in your feelings or break out into laughter. That’s part of the magic that Yakuza brings to the table, keeping the fans interested every step of the way while delivering some of the most hysterical content in gaming.

10 Miracle On Tenkaichi Street

While filming a music video doesn’t sound like a dangerous task, the pop star ‘‘Miracle’’ manages to find a way to do it. Shooting a realistic zombie video, players will have to defend the singer while he walks down a narrow street.

Does it get any more fun than fighting zombies? Especially when you can only Beast style to fend them off. From using objects to taking them on hand to hand, Kazuma will earn himself a silent pair of shoes upon arrival.

9 The Man With The Stranger’s Face

Taking a break from the usual shenanigans that Yakuza likes to throw your way, this story takes a more serious approach. Sitting down on a park bench, you’ll meet a man that will reveal he has had to surgically change his face because of a clash with the yakuza.

Shortly after talking, players will have to find his missing son that has strayed away from the park. Once you take him back to his parents, it will be up to you to defend them from the yakuza gang looking for revenge. If you fend them then the legendary Sakura Sword will be the reward.

8 Disciple Of The New Order

Back to insanity, Yakuza wouldn’t be the same without it. It’s up to you to save a worried woman’s daughter from the cult she’s recently joined, leading players to join the cult in order to get closer to the target.

As soon as you join the cult things start getting a little weird, chanting and praying until eventually you meet the head guru. After he gives you a crystal it’s time to switch the flip and convince the daughter to go back to her mother, starting a fight with the strange leader.

7 Ringleader Roundup

It won’t be yakuza members or hardened thugs you’ll be fighting this time, instead of taking on the entire lineup of a circus’s animal show. This includes a chimpanzee, tiger, and a bear, all of which aren’t too eager to get back in their cage.

Maybe the worst management of a show you can ask for, Ichiban will help the ringleader round up all his animal by defeating them in battle. Probably not the easiest way to go about things but it’s a great time!

6 Heir To The Family

One of the more feel-good stories in the series, players have to look after one of the most powerful children in the series, someone who Kazuma has known for a long time. Putting up with his spoiled brat attitude and witnessing just how bad things had gotten, he has to stand up and say something.

After his temper tantrum, the child is abducted by a group of teenagers, leading you to track him down and defeat them. Leading to a breakdown of the kid, who admits that he doesn’t get disciplined due to how much weight his father’s name carries, Kiryu tells him how to be a real man.

5 Suspicion Of Perversion

Hands down one of the strangest stories with the funniest outcome, it will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. A young girl that you’ve been protecting recognizes you at the pocket races and comes up to greet you, drawing attention from a man that accuses you of being a pervert.

Somehow this ends up with you pocket racing the man and beating him, ending up in drinks at the bar. It’s here that he reveals that he’s the young girl’s father and pays for the drinks as an apology. Maybe not as action-packed as some side stories but it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

4 The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Taking inspiration from another story, Yakuza introduces us to a girl that can apparently travel in time. Upon questioning her further you’ll find out that this day is one that changed her family forever, splitting up her parents and ending in tragedy.

It’s now up to you to stop her father from being harassed by some local thugs, taking on a group of gangsters and saving her family in the process. Definitely standing out as one of the most ambitious side quests that they take you on, you never know what you’re going to get in a Yakuza game.

3 Be My Baby

Speaking of random, this might just take the cake. You’re called to get rid of some thugs that are blocking a business from opening, the leader then comes out and apologizes by inviting you inside with some free services.

It’s here that you see a giant nursery with a lady waiting for you, freaked out, Kazuma back up into a weak wall that collapses. Revealing a group of men in diapers, the leader then commands them all to attack you for denying his hospitality.

2 Bad Ass Dads

There’s no need to put the gloves on in this story. In fact, you won’t raise a hand to anyone. Walking through the park, an interviewer will come up to you and ask you to audition to be a Bad Ass Dad, the hottest trend for TV and movies.

This will turn into you competing to see who’s the most macho older man with other bystanders that think they hit the mark better. Turning into a goofy, yet hilarious conversation that only gets funnier as it goes along, players will receive a much-needed break from the constant fighting.

1 Michio Minefield

The return of the loveable mascot that has staked his claim in the Yakuza series, here players will have to help the businessman uncover fake merchandise that some scammer has been selling.

While it definitely challenges the player’s observational skills more than his fighting ability, completing this questline will lead players into beating up a fake mascot and getting the legendary mascot as a pound mate.
