All of the big games of 2020 are finally out on the Nintendo Switch. It’s now time to look forward to a new year which will hopefully bring a fresh crop of games to ease the pain of this continued quarantine. 2021 might even be the year Nintendo finally unveils their next console and/or at least that rumored upgrade for Switch.

Anyway, the first three months don’t have a lot of AAA titles to rival that of this year’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. That said, there are still plenty of games regardless of the budget to get excited for.

10 Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition

This game is a decade old now since it released and its almost been unavailable for just as long. It never graced a Nintendo platform before so this is pretty momentous besides the fact that it skipped the entire last generation. It’s a great brawler from a great movie. This game will also be available on PC, Stadia, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox platforms on 1/14.

9 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Super Mario 3D World was yet another under appreciated Wii U title. It didn’t have the scale of something like Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Odyssey but it was still a good Mario adventure and the co-op was an added bonus. It will be interesting to see what this Bowser’s Fury is all about but that’s hush hush for now. This game is coming exclusively to Switch on 2/12.

8 Persona 5 Strikers

Unfortunately this is not the long rumored port of Persona 5 to the Switch. It would be nice if that did come eventually though. Anyway, this is instead yet another spinoff to Dynasty Warriors but taking place in the world of Persona 5 literally after that game ends. This game will also be available on PS4 and PC on 2/23.

7 Ghosts ’n Goblins: Resurrection

Whenever a challenging game comes out it’s easy to liken it to Dark Souls, or to call something the Dark Souks of blank. For example, this year’s Crash Bandicoot game was like the Dark Souls of platformers.

The point of this is to call out Ghosts ‘n Goblins as the original impossibly hard game from the NES. It’s back for more in a remaster so get ready to cry again Capcom fans. This game is coming exclusively to Switch on 2/25.

6 Bravely Default 2

Calling this Bravely Default 2 is kind of weird since there already was a game like this aka Bravely Second. Technically those are different names but it really doesn’t matter. All one needs to know is that this series started off as a reboot of sorts to classic Final Fantasy games in all but name and this looks like more of that. This game is coming exclusively to Switch on 2/26.

5 Sea Of Solitude: Director’s Cut

This originally came out in 2020 and did not review that well. Taken criticism to mind, the developers went back to fix a lot of the game. This retooled version is coming exclusively to Switch on 3/4. Who knows if an update will be released for the other platforms but there is a good chance that it will eventually.

4 Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town

Anyone hungry for another game like Stardew Valley? Story of Seasons should satiate that hunger somewhat.

This series began as a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon and has since blown up at least in this niche market. That is to say it has its fans and they are dedicated. This game is coming exclusively to Switch on 3/23.

3 Balan Wonderworld

This game will be a collaboration between Square Enix and the father of Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuji Naka. He has helped create some amazing properties for Sega besides Sonic too and this certainly looks up his alley. It’s hard to say if this will be any good or not but keep those fingers crossed platformer fans. This game will also be available on PC, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox platforms on 3/26.

2 It Takes Two

This is the next co-op focused game from EA’s partners over at Hazelight Studios. Their last game, A Way Out, launched in 2018 so it has certainly been awhile since players could experience a unique co-op game like that. Instead of breaking out of prison, this game is about a married couple being turned into dolls and they need to work together through a series of platforming puzzles in order to solve their doll dilemma. This game will also be available on PC, PlayStation platforms, and Xbox platforms on 3/26.

1 Monster Hunter Rise

This may not be a port of Monster Hunter: World like some fans have wanted, but this is the next best thing. In fact, it might be better than that because it now has dogs one can ride. Another cool thing about it is it’s samurai aesthetic. This game is coming exclusively to Switch on 3/26. Get ready for a demo dropping in January too.
