Some of the types in Pokémon have cute creatures in greater abundance than others. The Electric-type is one of these. For whatever reason, Electric has a ton of cuties in it, many of which are fan-favorites. Perhaps it’s the cuddly nature of their static electricity-based designs, or maybe it’s the fact that many of them are electrified versions of already-cute animals.
Whatever the reason, Electric-types are typically very well-designed. Even the series’ mascot, Pikachu, is a cute Electric-type. While it could be hard to decide which Pokémon from this type are the best, here are the cutest.
10 Mareep
The world will forever mourn the loss of Mareep during the Dexit cuts in Sword and Shield. One of the first Generation VIII Pokémon to be announced was Wooloo, another cuddly round sheep. Fanart exploded featuring the two little sheep being best friends.
When the fans realized these two couldn’t meet, hearts were crushed. Mareep is so adorable and cuddly, and many people were extremely sad to not see it in Galar. At least its spirit can live on through Wooloo, but it just isn’t the same with the cute Electric sheep around.
9 Shinx
A long, long-time fan-favorite, the entire Shinx line is actually adorable. Shinx itself is a small little lynx cub, with fuzzy electric cheeks and an adorable tuft of hair on top of its head. Its little smile is also irresistible.
As it evolves, it grows more “intense” and less “cute,” but remains lovable. Luxio is like the rowdy kid that wants to be impressive but is still cute, and Luxray is the edgy teen that thinks its stronger than it is. The whole line, thanks in part to their lynx inspiration, is cute.
8 Blitzle
Where to begin with Blitzle? This small Electric zebra is just downright adorable. Introduced in Generation V, it evolves into the equally-cool (but not really “cute”) Zebstrika. Both are great designs with obvious inspiration. Blitzle is very cute, and because of its availability early in the games, it has probably become a nice addition to many players’ teams over the years.
Some believe there is some inspiration pulled from the Greek Titan Helios’ chariot steeds. These celestial horses would pull the god’s chariot and have a strong association with the sun.
7 Yamper
When it was announced that the Generation VIII region, Galar, would be based on the U.K., fans were incredibly excited to see which “British” inspirations the games would take for the Pokémon designs. Luckily, fans were blessed with a Pokémon based on the Queen’s famous corgis.
Yamper is an Electric-type dog that is clearly based on an adorable corgi. Sadly, some other typically British animals, didn’t make it (rest in peace, Snubbull, Lillipup, and Swanna), but at least the world can adore this small exciting chubster in all his glory.
6 Alolan Raichu
Since the first generation of Pokémon, Raichu has long been one of the cutest ones. It’s arguably cuter than Pikachu, with its spiky ears and tail, plus its happy-go-lucky attitude. However, Game Freak decided to make it even better with an Alolan form.
The Alolan variant is even cuter, especially in the anime. It has an unexplained love for pancakes, which is so great. The only time Alolan Raichu isn’t adorable is when you’re battling Hau in the Generation VII games. His Raichu will bury you faster than you can say “pancakes.”
5 Emolga
There are plenty of what fans call “Pikachu clones,” that is, Electric-type rodents that resemble Pikachu. From Plusle and Minun to Togedemaru and Morpeko, these clones are introduced in basically every generation. Emolga is the one introduced in Generation V, and it’s a dual-type Electric/Flying Pokémon.
Despite the fact that it’s in the category of ripoffs of another Pokémon, it’s very cute. The flying-squirrel design is a clever one, and the designers did a great job with it. The choice of stark white with dark grey and yellow is a good one, too.
4 Helioptile
One of the many Pokémon that have appeared in the anime before being introduced in their generation’s games, Helioptile made its debut in The Journalist from Another Region! under the ownership of Ash’s friend Alexa. It debuted alongside Gogoat, another Generation VI Pokémon and an equally-cute Grass-type.
Helioptile’s big, floppy ears are an important part of what makes it so cute. The little black paws and its long tail also contribute to its loveableness. It won’t remain that cute when it evolves, but that’s true for many Pokémon, unfortunately.
3 Dedenne
Another Pikachu clone, Dedenne is a Fairy/Electric-type introduced in Generation VI. This small rodent is heartbreakingly adorable. It looks somewhat like the classicly cute Hamtaro. Both are based on hamsters, with Dedenne also having features of dormice and gerbils, maybe.
This little bucktooth-ed rodent is truly adorable, but don’t watch the anime if you want to keep that opinion. Clemont, one of Ash’s traveling companions, has a Dedenne.
2 Joltik
Is it true that everything tiny is cute? Maybe not, but that’s the case with the Pokémon world much of the time. It’s perhaps at its most true with Joltik, a Bug/Electric-type introduced in Generation V. This tiny, tiny Pokémon is actually one of the smallest in existence.
Even though it’s a spider, this little guy is pretty adorable. It’s so itty-bitty that you can’t help but feel attached to it. Plus, it’s always shown trying its absolute best despite not being very powerful (or even physically intimidating).
1 Pichu
Not technically a Pikachu clone, but still considered one because it was introduced in a later generation, Pichu is actually the baby pre-evolution of Pikachu. Baby Pokémon were introduced first in Generation II and have been added throughout the series.
One of the cutest of all time is Pichu. This small floppy-eared version of Pikachu is downright adorable. Its addition to Smash as a fighter makes it clear just how small and determined this little guy is, and the Pichu wearing hats in Pokémon will shatter your heart with their cuteness.
