Sony has always been a giant in all markets that it has entered. It was no different when the company decided to make its own console. PlayStation has provided many exclusive games and amazing experiences to gamers that are stuck in our memories forever. Video games can provide memorable experiences by combining the game aspects of the medium with storytelling, voice acting, and more.

Because of that, PlayStation has also blessed players with iconic characters. Some are just fun, others are funny, and there are some that started simple but evolved into fleshed-out characters with interesting stories to tell. Whatever the case is, these upcoming quotes were made famous by amazing games and unforgettable characters associated with PlayStation.

10 “Boy!”

Atreus was immortalized as “boy” in God of War. The emotionally distant, threatening way that Kratos calls upon Atreus in his deep voice is repeated enough times for it to get stuck in any player’s head. Kratos and Atreus share a long journey of a man who just wants to honor his dead wife’s last wish.

It is funny how this is the most dramatic God of War game but the most memorable quote is a distant father’s way of calling his own son. However, the quote itself is an indication of how the relationship between the two works.

9 “What’s wrong? Snake! Snake!”

Metal Gear Solid is the third game in the Metal Gear franchise and the first 3D one. It was a PlayStation exclusive made by Hideo Kojima. It started his tradition of making very cinematic games with convoluted, long plots and too many cutscenes. A direct sequel to Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid is known for dubbed dialogue that appears in Radio Conversations.

The game is not easy, which ingrained the “game over” screens into the minds of everyone who played it. Especially when they came with an ally yelling the main character’s name.

8 “You Died”

Demon’s Souls immortalized this simple sentence that got stuck in the head of those who yelled out of frustration upon losing thousands of souls for the first time. The Souls games might be fair but they are also tough. To make it worse, Demon’s Souls is one of the hardest Souls-like games. Players will die many times before they learn the basics. After they do, they will keep dying because it is just part of the game after all.

And upon dying so many times, the black screen with the red letters will be stuck in the players’ brains. So Souls players might just accept that they will constantly see a screen that says “YOU DIED.”

7 “Praise The Sun!”

This phrase comes from Dark Souls and it was immortalized by the nicest NPC of the whole franchise, Solaire of Astora. An optimistic character in a dying world, Solaire became an undead so he could go to Lordran to find a sun of his own. A skilled warrior who will help players sometimes, Solaire always has some encouraging words and never loses hope.

Solaire of Astora is an adherent to the Lord of Sunlight. His iconic pose is constantly remembered and used in memes, frequently associated with his iconic phrase, “Praise the sun!”

6 “What Are Ya Buying?”

The PlayStation 2 is still considered by many to be the best Sony console ever. It had so many games, and too many of them were good. Resident Evil made a comeback in this era with the first game that distanced itself from the franchise’s classic survival horror roots. In Resident Evil 4, players control Leon again, from Resident Evil 2, but as a special agent looking for the president’s daughter in a foreign land.

From time to time, players would meet this strange figure who would take no sides in the war but would easily take Leon’s money. His greeting line will be remembered forever, and not because it is one of the terrible lines of the franchise. While Resident Evil 4 debuted on the Nintendo GameCube before making its way to the PS2, the franchise’s long history with Sony’s consoles makes this quote a valid pick.

5 “Everyone I Have Cared For Has Either Died Or Left Me.”

The Last of Us is a legendary game made by Naughty Dog. A PlayStation exclusive, it had graphics beyond what was thought to be achievable on the PS3. Not only that, The Last of Us is one of the best survival horror games ever made.

The Last of Us provided players with a dramatic story. A man reluctantly accepts the job of smuggling a girl out of a city because she reminds him of his dead daughter. At some point in the game, Ellie provides this powerful line and says that Joel is the only one who hasn’t left yet.

4 “My Friends Are My Power!”

Kingdom Hearts is mostly known for its unusual mash of Final Fantasy and Disney characters. At some point in the first game, Riku takes the Keyblade that was with Sora. After that, Riku asks what Sora will do without his weapon.

Sora then starts a monologue about how his heart is weak but it does not mean that he is defenseless. And he finally realizes that he does not need a weapon, ending with “my friends are my power!”

3 “Listen To My Story. This May Be Our Last Chance.”

Most Final Fantasy fans have played multiple games of the franchise. Although they might argue that one is better than the other, all of them have memorable scenes. For all of those who at least tried Final Fantasy 10, they had to go through the opening scene.

Final Fantasy 10 quickly lets players know how high the stakes are as ruins are slowly revealed. A sad song plays while players get to see the main character and his party members in a melancholic atmosphere. It is then that Tidus asks the player to listen.

2 “Jackpot!”

Devil May Cry was a PlayStation exclusive for a while. Dante is one of the most iconic videogame characters ever, and gamers are far from having enough of him. Known for his wicked sense of humor, stylish way of killing demons, and for some of the best action games ever made, it is not surprising that his quotes would become famous.

Throughout the series, Dante repeats this in various situations, making this word his catchphrase. He yells “jackpot” when releasing a charge shot when he gets a new power or when he wants to annoy his brother, Virgil. The games have many memorable lines besides this one, but everybody associates “jackpot” with Dante.

1 “What Is A Man? A Miserable Little Pile Of Secrets.”

Castlevania inspired the Metroidvania genre. This is due to the fact that it was the second popular franchise to feature a map with blocked paths that would be traversable after the player would find another ability. Metroid was the first, so players mixed the names of the franchises to create the genre.

Castlevania is also known for its over-the-top voice acting. The first lines of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which debuted on the PS1, stuck by many kids who were amazed by the prospect of fighting Dracula after he exchanged a few words with Richter. This is when the lord of darkness uses the memorable line that would eventually become a worldwide known meme.
