The Call of Duty series is known for many things; a massive variety of guns is one. Throughout every ongoing release of Call of Duty, there have been balancing problems in every game to date. Today we will go back through the Call of Duty series and taking a long at some of the most overpowered guns in multiplayer.
For this list, we cannot cover every overpowered weapon, simply because there are too many to name. However, we will be focusing on what guns are still overwhelming today and not what was overpowered. Here are our picks for broken guns you can still dominate within multiplayer.
10 BAR: World War 2
The BAR is the last AR you unlock in WW2 and is one of the few automatic weapons that have a three-shot kill potential. The BAR spits out around five hundred rounds per minute, and with rapid-fire attached it reaches over six hundred. With rapid-fire, it outperforms most of the SMGs at close range as an AR. After all that, it still has the three-shot kill potential at any range with low recoil. It takes a long time to get to this gun, and some even prefer the STG 44, but the BAR’s damage overall arguably makes it more powerful.
9 M16A4: Modern Warfare
This choice comes as no surprise, as the M16A4 was one of the most overpowered guns in COD history. This weapon is one of the starting weapons you have when starting the game, and it takes no time to level this gun up and unlock its full suite of attachments. It’s a three-round burst AR, dealing between 30 to 40 damage per bullet at one thousand rounds per minute. With the addition of stopping power, this weapon becomes a nearly two-shot kill at any range with little recoil. With the remastered version, servers are improved, and hitting shots is even easier than it was in the original release.
8 MP40: World at War
Call of Duty World at War would be one of the most balanced COD games to date if it were not for the MP40. It packs the power and range of an AR in an SMG, dealing between 29 and 59 damage without stopping power, making it a two to four-shot kill at any distance.
The fire rate is low. However, since stopping power isn’t a priority, adding rapid-fire fixes that problem. The only way the MP40 got any better or worse at that point is the addition of a drum magazine, expanding its ammo capacity and reducing the frequency of downtime for reloading.
7 FAMAS: Black OPS 1
Despite this gun being nerfed shortly after the game’s launch, it continues to dominate lobbies with its raw power. With over nine hundred rounds per minute and dealing between 25 to 35 damage per bullet, this gun’s capable of three-shotting opponents. With the number of shots this AR spits out by default, you can outduel most SMGs. There are other ARs in BO1 that do higher damage, but even with the recoil nerfs it puts out the highest DPS. Not to mention it maintains high accuracy at long range, making this gun a difficult challenge to go up against.
6 UMP-45: Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare 2 is a fan favorite despite it being one of the most unbalanced COD games. While many other guns can go on this list, we have chosen the UMP-45. A tried and true overpowered classic, it’s an SMG that fires at six hundred rounds per minute or eight hundred with rapid-fire equipped. The UMP-45 hits between 35 to 40 damage at any range with no drop-off, making it impressively outbox most ARs.
5 MP7: Modern Warfare 3
One of the most absurdly unbalanced weapons in the franchise has to the MP7, an SMG that hits as hard as an LMG, but with a much faster fire rate. It deals 20 to 35 damage at any distance and fires over nine hundred rounds per minute with no perks. What makes this gun overpowered is the fact that rapid-fire makes the MP7 shoot over a thousand rounds per minute. It has one of the best default sets of iron sights in-game and attaching a 40 round magazine just makes things even worse. Overall, it fires so fast that the target can barely react, making it difficult to beat.
4 SKORPION EVO: Black OPS 2
If you thought the MP7 was fast, the SKORPION EVO from BO2 was much faster. One of the fastest firing guns in the entire COD series, it fires at nearly twelve hundred rounds per minute, and that’s without rapid-fire. With rapid-fire attached, its rate increases to eighteen hundred.
The EVO’s damage is only between 18 and 33 damage with a high amount of recoil. However, when you are firing that fast, the lower damage spread seems insignificant.
3 SAUG 9MM: Black OPS 4
Nothing comes close to the SAUG 9MM in BO4. It’s another gun that continues to stomp multiplayer matches, but to unlock its full power takes a bit of time. At its core, the SMG doesn’t have much power unless in close quarters combat. With just a small magazine and decent damage, average at best. But adding the dual wield modification, the SAUG can outclass most ARs and win nearly every close-range fight. Unless you keep your distance, you will be overrun quickly with this overwhelming pair.
2 M4A1: Modern Warfare (2019)
Much like the original MW, the M4A1 follows a similar function to the previously mentioned M16A4. Despite being nerfed a few times, it continues to push through as a gun that performs well at any range. It puts out over eight hundred rounds per minute and can down a target at close range in three shots. The M4A1 currently has one of the fastest TTKs and can outperform most ARs and SMGs at all ranges. Even with its nerfs since launch, it continues to be one of the top used guns in the game.
1 205 BREECI: Black OPS 3
Shotguns have a consistent theme within COD games. Either they underperform or are overpowered, the point being that very few are balanced. When it comes to the 205 BREECI, it’s overpowered for several reasons and somehow has not been nerfed. It fires at two hundred rounds per minute, is able to 2-shot an opponent, and has a ridiculous reload speed by default. On top of the fast reloading speed, it can be made even faster, and with a default 12-round magazine, it does not even require aiming. Many COD fans hate this gun and still do for its effortless and overpowered ability to win matches easily.
