The smallest generation of Pokemon so far is Generation VI, finding its home in the French-inspired Kalos region. The two games released for it, X & Y, are fantastic entries into the series that introduced this small batch of new Pokemon. But, just because there aren’t that many Kalos Pokemon doesn’t mean they aren’t as competitively viable as any other generation.
If you’re looking to build a good team in the Gen VI games for competitive play or to take down the gym leaders and Elite Four of the Kalos League, look no further than some Pokemon who have very impressive base stat totals. Sure, typing, movepools, abilities, and more matter too, but these Pokemon have the best stats of any in this generation.
10 Gogoat (531)
A bit of a surprising face to see on this list next to Starter Pokemon and Legendaries, Gogoat has a surprising base stat total of 531. This is especially odd since most Pokemon have round numbers for their stats. But this unusual Grass-type simply has a solid amount of all-around stats to give it a pleasant amount of sturdiness.
Its Speed stat is still its lowest of all, though, which has always kept it from being anywhere near competitive play. Nonetheless, its total is certainly quite impressive given the other Pokemon on this list, most of which being legendaries that blow most species out of the water.
9 Delphox (534)
Delphox, the final evolution of the Fire-type starter Fennekin, sits just slightly ahead of the other two starter options with a base stat total of 534. This Fire and Psychic-type is built to be a quick special-focused fighter, and it accomplishes this extremely well despite its wide array of weaknesses.
The funny part of Delphox is that its stat total is actually higher than the other Kalos starters without including their special forms, with both being just under Gogoat at 530. Why Delphox has such a boost is unsure, but it may have to do with the earlier mentioned variety of weaknesses causing it additional defensive risks.
8 Noivern (535)
A very popular Dragon-type Pokemon, Noivern has a great base stat total of 535, putting it just a single point ahead of Delphox. It’s definitely focused on being a quick hitter, since its speed stat of 123 sits very far ahead of the rest of its stats.
This is a well-earned stat total, however, as Noivern takes ages to evolve and make relevant alongside other Pokemon. Its earlier evolution of Noibat is nowhere near as powerful, and you’ll want to catch one close to level 48 if you want to get it to reach a worthwhile amount of power in your game.
7 Florges (552)
Florges, the pure Fairy-type introduced this generation, is widely known as a fantastic special attacker, and its stats are a big part of that. Florges has an amazing base stat total of 552, and it allocated most of that into the Special Attack and Special Defense stats.
There’s also one special mention that should be made for Florges, who has a special form owned originally by the character Az that has a special stat total of 551. It isn’t as strong as its evolved form even in this boost, though, so Florges is still the winner in terms of powerful Fairy-type stats.
6 Goodra & Volcanion (600)
Like every other pseudo-Legendary Pokemon, the resident pseudo of Kalos is Goodra with a base stat total of 600. While each pseudo has a different stat focus, most of them focus on heavy attack stats. Goodra, though, is more defensive – something that makes it stand out among any Pokemon with this stat total.
This also includes Volcanion, another Pokemon that’s tied for exactly 600 thanks to its status as a Mythical Pokemon. This legendary, however, has a much more offensive spread of stats, making it show that stat totals matter very little compared to how well and how high a Pokemon’s specifics stats are.
5 Battle Bond Greninja (640)
As mentioned with Delphox, no other starter in the Kalos games has as high a base stat total outside of any unusual forms. Thankfully for Greninja, it does indeed have a unique form that originated in the anime: a Battle Bond form where it takes the colors and passion of Ash Ketchum to grow far more powerful.
This results in fifty more stats in both its Attack and Special Attack, as well as ten additional Speed points to give it an incredible base stat total of 640. This makes it the strongest non-legendary Pokemon in all of Kalos and is especially fitting given its competitive status and general popularity.
4 Hoopa Unbound (680)
Putting the stats of its Confined Form behind it is Hoopa Unbound, which has a fantastic 680 base stat total. Its distribution remains similar to its other form, which has a remarkably even spread of every one of its stats, but this larger form comes with a larger set of powers.
This is easily the most significant member of this list, having one of the highest Special Attack stats of any legendary in the entire series. As a result, it can be absolutely menacing if let loose in a battle, but thankfully it’s been banned in pretty much any competitive field.
3 Xerneas & Yveltal (680)
Most game mascot Legendaries have a similar base stat total of 680, and Xerneas and Yveltal are not about to change that. What makes Xerneas and Yveltal unique, though, is that they actually have the exact same stat distribution, with their respective typings of Fairy-type and Dark & Flying-type being their only difference.
Nonetheless, both are incredible powerhouses with a wide set of moves to perfectly utilize their incredible stats. Even better are their abilities, which can raise their offensive stats further to do some wicked damage with any moves that share their primary Fairy or Dark-type traits.
2 Mega Diancie (700)
The original Diancie sits with Volcanion and Goodra at a base stat total of 600 thanks to its mythical status, but its Mega Evolution changed all of that with a huge boost in stats to give it a regal flair above the other legendaries of Kalos. This shoots it right into second place, with a base stat total of 700.
This results in a slight swap of its defense and offense stats, but the primary cause of its high stat boost is its Speed, which is more than double its original when undergoing Mega Evolution. This makes the queen of Carbink a truly destructive force, with its only weakness being its measly 50 base HP.
1 Complete Zygarde (708)
The third member of the trio with Xerneas and Yveltal is Zygarde, who never appeared as a game mascot. However, it whizzes past the other two in terms of base stat total. Its only form in the Gen VI games, 50% Form, does not. It wouldn’t have a higher base stat total until Zygarde Complete’s debut in Pokemon Sun & Moon, but still debuted and is most known for its identity as a Kalos Pokemon.
This ends up being an absolute menace at its full form, and it pushes so many other Pokemon completely out of contention when it enters battle. If you don’t have a way to kill it immediately, ideally through an Ice-type move, then you’re not going to get far in a fight with Zygarde whatsoever.
