Some players absolutely love Generation 1 and some aren’t as fond of it. However, regardless of a person’s opinion, most players can admit that there are some very weird Pokémon from the Kanto region. One of the reasons that a lot of the Pokémon were so weird in Generation 1 was because it was when Pokémon first began and the developers weren’t completely sure what direction they were going in for designing all the creatures.

10 Muk
This Pokémon is literally just a collection of sludge, and that is quite bizarre compared to a lot of the other Generation 1 Pokémon that resemble animals. When players first saw this creature they wondered how it was even alive, because it’s just a bunch of poisonous sludge thrown together.
It does have quite powerful moves and has very strong stats, however that doesn’t make up for how absolutely bizarre the creature is. This weird Pokémon is considered one of the most interesting and strangest in Generation 1.
9 Meowth
On the surface Meowth isn’t very weird, it’s just a cat after all. However once it learns to talk, which it is shown doing within the anime, fans quickly became confused as to how it got this ability.
Very few Pokémon in the franchise are ever shown talking, and most of them are either legendary or Psychic-types, which make their ability to speak somewhat more normal. However, this cat is quite bizarre because its the only normal Pokémon that has the ability to speak.
8 Bulbasaur
A lot of players love this Pokémon, and it’s no surprise because it’s one of the starters of Generation 1. The reason that it’s so weird is because it has a bulb growing out of its back that is about to bloom into a plant.
This plant can even create abilities such as Vine Whip and Razor Leaf, which will slice straight through any opponent. On the surface this bulb seems completely magical, and fans can’t quite figure out what it is, which is why it is so bizarre!
7 Electrode
This Pokémon is a Pokéball come to life! According to some of its Pokédex entries it was involved in some complications within a Pokéball manufacturing plant, and that created this living creature.
Fans can’t quite figure out what this Pokémon is really supposed to be, which confuses most players and turns them off to the idea of catching one. This Pokéball/mon is quite weird!
6 Geodude
The reason that Geodude is so bizarre is that it’s a rock monster with arms sticking out of its head. Another weird thing about this creature is that it is shown to be floating, and fans wonder how a rock can float.
Everything about this Pokémon screams weird, and although some of its evolutions are slightly more normal they’re still almost just as bizarre as this one. It even has an Electric-type form, which proves that it truly makes no sense.
5 Parasect
This peculiar Bug-type is weird because it actually isn’t controlled by the original brain. Evident by its name, a parasite controls its body and that is one of the weirdest things that has happened to any Pokémon.
It’s also bizarre that this creature continues to get possessed by these parasites and every Paris that evolves into one is immediately infected with parasites. This weird creature has never gotten a true explanation and fans continue to wonder how they can all be infected with parasites!
4 Machamp
This Fighting-type creature has four arms and looks extremely humanoid. Fans wonder whether this Pokémon actually evolved from a human, and hope that something in the future will explain its weird appearance.
Some fans love humanoid Pokémon and some hate them, but regardless of how a fan feels about it, everybody can admit that this is a weird Pokémon. At least it’s powerful though!
3 Exeggcute
This Pokémon is just a collection of eggs with faces on them. Fans wonder multiple things about this creature, like where did the eggs come from and how they evolve into fewer faces than before. With Exeggutor however, there has never been a clear explanation for these things.
This Pokémon is weird for so many reasons that it’s hard to list all of them, but the main staple of this creature is that it is just a bunch of Psychic-type eggs. This creature is quite peculiar!
2 Magnemite
This magnet Pokémon is one of the most powerful Electric-types in Generation 1. It has very strong attacks and its stats are quite high as well making it and its evolutions the perfect competitive battler.
However despite how strong this Pokémon is during battles it is still bizarre and the fact that it’s a magnet is one of the weirdest things about it. A magnet that is alive is what makes this Pokémon one of the weirdest creatures in the franchise.
1 Drowzee
There are so many weird things about this Pokémon, from its abilities all the way to its peculiar appearance. It has a humanoid appearance and an elephant trunk for a nose, and its psychic abilities can easily take down any Pokémon during battle.
Its evolution is even weirder in the Pokédex, however at least it looks somewhat more normal. This Pokémon is extremely strange and there is no reason to catch it unless fans are after its more powerful evolution, Hypno!
