Generation 5 added the most new Pokémon since generation 1, and some of the designs were very weird compared to the average Pokémon. With so many new creatures added, it’s no surprise that some of them ended up being a little bit wackier than others, and this list will cover some of the most peculiar creatures from the Unova region.

Pokémon designs such as a garbage Pokémon and a creature made out of ice cream are only scratching the surface of the interesting designs that came out of generation 5. From Litwick to Garbador, here are 10 of the weirdest Pokémon from the Unova region!

10 Litwick

This creature is nothing more than a tiny candle, and that is what makes it such a peculiar Pokémon to be introduced into the franchise. Litwick has a flame burning on the candle which would realistically destroy its entire body within a few days; however, that is not what seems to happen in the Pokémon world.

Litwick can live for a long time, and it’s candle-like body doesn’t seem to be made out of wax, which leaves fans to question what the actual biology of this Pokémon is. Perhaps fans will never know, but at least the mystery adds to Litwick’s charming atmosphere!

9 Pignite

The other two Pokémon in this evolutionary line aren’t especially weird; however, Pignite is an odd looking Pokémon, and most fans don’t like it very much.

Pignite’s body is bizarre compared to the rest of its evolutions, and some fans wonder how it went from such a cute creature such as Tepig to it’s more ugly appearance. Luckily its evolution, Emboar, is quite powerful, so fans can overlook this weird creature to pick Tepig as their starter.

8 Crustle

There is a straightforward reason that this Pokémon is so weird, it has a giant Boulder on its back. Hermit crabs are usually known to carry around a shell; however, Crustle has one that is much larger than the average hermit crab.

The rock on its back could easily way over 100 pounds, which would make maneuvering around a battlefield incredibly tricky. Some fans wonder why Crustle would pick such a peculiar rock to call home; however, perhaps that is just the biology of this Pokémon.

7 Scraggy

Scraggy wears its skin as if it were pants, and that creeps a lot of Pokémon fans out for a good reason. Most trainers don’t want to see their Pokémon pulling up its skin, and it only makes it more difficult for Scraggy while it is in combat.

Winning battles with this creature is incredibly difficult and will require excellent training for any actual potential to come to light. For both its weak battling ability and creepy appearance, fans usually choose not to catch one of these while traveling in the Unova region. Scraggy is just so weird!

6 Solosis

Solosis is a weird Pokémon for multiple reasons. The first and foremost reason is that it is supposed to be like a cell, with its head being the nucleus and the green goo surrounding it being cytoplasm. It’s whole evolution line is supposed to be a cell going through mitosis, but that begs the question of whether Solosis is just one giant cell or is still composed of other little cells?

Another peculiar thing about this Pokémon is it psychic abilities because they are very weird when compared to other Pokémon of the Psychic-typing. It’s background does not really have much to do with psychic abilities in comparison to biology. Hopefully, there will be a clearer answer in the future, but for now, fans will continue to consider Solosis a bizarre creature!

5 Genesect

Genesect is a mythical creature, and it is one of the strongest Pokémon in the entire Unova region. It has a unique Bug/Steel-typing that allows it to use many different attacks to defeat opponents easily.

Genesect was initially created by Team Plasma and brought back as a fossil, but it was quickly modified with cannons and a hard steel shell. It’s primitive biology combined with technology make it one of the weirdest creatures in the Pokémon franchise to date for most fans!

4 Durant

Durant is a creature that most Pokémon trainers don’t want to go near because it looks like it might attack them with its sharp mouth.  There have been a few ant themed Pokémon in the franchise but not one as weird as this Steel-type because of its giant appearance and hard shell.

Despite how weird this Pokémon is, it’s still incredibly interesting and one of the strongest creatures in the Unova region that can’t evolve. Hopefully, more unique designs such as this one will be present in the future because fans can’t get enough of creatures such as Durant!

3 Klinklang

This Pokémon is just a bunch of gears, that’s it. It has a few pre-evolutions that are also cogs spinning, and its design is quite barren compared to some of the more unique ones that are present in generation 5.

Although Klinklang is a weird Pokémon, it’s also very powerful, and many trainers see the potential in it and decide to catch one for themselves. Being able to use a bunch of different moves of both the Steel-typing and other types allow for a diverse combat experience compared to a lot of the other Pokémon of generation 5.

2 Garbador

Garbador has a bunch of trash making up its body and razor blades for teeth. Although many fans consider this creature to be one of the laziest designs in the franchise, it’s fascinating and unique compared to some of the more boring Pokémon such as Deerling and Pidove.

This garbage Pokémon may stink, but it’s also pretty powerful, especially in generation 8 with a brand new Gigantamax form. It is worth catching this creature for any Pokémon trainer that wants a strong Poison-type by their side in battle.

1 Vanillite

This Pokémon is simply known as the ice cream creature, and it gets the highest spot on this list because it should realistically melt under the sun. However, it doesn’t and it’s biology allows it to continually stay frozen solid even in hot temperatures.

Another weird thing about Vanillite is its ice cream design, and fans wonder if it was created in a lab because of how similar it looks to an ice cream cone. Perhaps this will be a great mystery of generation 5 forever because it doesn’t seem like something that will be revealed any time soon!
