Published by Capcom, Resident Evil 5 has become a favorite third-person shooter in the video game community. It allows players to do what they can’t in real life - let off a bit of steam and shoot away some zombies without restriction.
The best part is that the player can choose any kind of gun to take down their enemies. The worst part is choosing which one to use. Out of all the weapons in Resident Evil 5, there can be good ones and bad ones, but several of them are great. And the following ones are the game’s absolute best.
Updated February 11th, 2021 by Ben Jessey: With Resident Evil Village on the horizon, the horror series is the talk of the industry once again. An exhilarating demo and several shots of interesting villainesses have excited the RE fanbase. However, there’s still some time before the game is actually released.
While they wait, some fans are replaying their favorite entries in the franchise. One of which is Resident Evil 5. While embarking on Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar’s dangerous adventure once again, you’ll want to be well-equipped. And there are so many fantastic weapons in the game that praising only ten of them doesn’t seem enough. Therefore, here are a few more that you should consider adding to your arsenal.
15 Stun Rod
A common trend in the Resident Evil series is a lack of ammo. And even though RE5 gives more bullets than most entries, it’s still less than the typical shooter. So, any weapon that can deal out damage without using resources is useful. The Stun Rod is a prime example of that.
This melee weapon is surprisingly deadly, sometimes killing enemies with one hit. But using it does mean getting dangerously close to the infected. If you’re not scared of close-quarters combat, then it can be purchased from the store after Chapter 2-3 for 3000 gold.
14 Flash grenade
A Flash Grenade isn’t the first weapon you think to use against a horde of infected monsters. But the throwable item can instantly kill some of the most dangerous enemies in the game as Plaga exposed creatures are susceptible to them. For that alone, it’s a useful weapon to carry around.
Plus, if used against regular infected, it leaves them open to stylish melee attacks, which are always fun to deal out. The grenades aren’t hard to find, either, as they regularly appear as pick ups during missions.
13 Grenade Launcher
During Chapter 4-1 in the ancient ruins, you can get your hands on the versatile Grenade Launcher. This destructive weapon can use six different kinds of ammunition, making it effective against all sorts of enemies.
What’s more, unlike every other weapon in the game, you can actually buy ammo for the gun. This can come in handy when you’re coming up to a boss or a difficult section of the story. If you miss picking up the Launcher in Chapter 4, you can buy one for 10,000 gold.
12 S&W M500
Even some of the best weapons in Resident Evil history don’t deal the level of damage that the M500 does. Once fully upgraded, the magnum boasts 5000 firepower and kills nearly every enemy in one shot. And with its piercing ability, it blasts straight through any piece of armor the infected decide to wear.
However, there are also some downsides to the weapon. Its reload speed of 3.18 seconds and capacity of 6 is unimpressive. Plus, even Chris’ beefy arms can’t stop the insane recoil on the beast. At least its sheer damage output makes up for its lack of speed. If you want to get your hands on the weapon, you need to buy it for 30,000 gold, and it’s only available after you’ve fully upgraded the S&W M29.
11 Rocket Launcher
The Resident Evil series includes some challenging bosses. However, many of them have a weakness against Rocket Launchers. The ones in RE5 are no different; the RPG can kill most of them in a single shot.
It’s a special weapon that doesn’t have stats, but you don’t need them to recognize it is by far the most powerful piece of weaponry in the game. Unfortunately, it lacks ammo – unless you beat the game in under five hours and get the infinite version. Still, it’s worth picking one up on the sunken ship in Chapter 3-1 or buying one for 10,000 gold at the shop.
10 SIG P226
One of the most impressive handguns in the game is the SIG P226. It has a damage of 480, a reload of 1.62 seconds, and a capacity of 16 rounds when fully upgraded.
The gun’s firepower is higher than all of the other pistols. Unfortunately, it also has the smallest capacity, and lowest reload speed. Plus, you’ll have to spend 4,000 of your hard-earned gold to obtain it. Still, though, it’s a weapon that won’t let you down.
9 M93R
Another good handgun is the M93R, containing a damage of 400, reload of 1.36 seconds, 30-round capacity, and a 3-shot burst ability when fully upgraded. The Beretta M93R has the second-highest firepower of all the pistols, has a decent reload speed, and the fastest fire rate.
The only downside is that it costs a pretty penny to acquire. First, you have to use plenty of gold to fully upgrade the M92F handgun to unlock the M93R in the game’s store. Then you have to spend another 30,000 to purchase the gun.
8 M3
Next is a shotgun, specifically the M3 shotgun. Fully upgraded, this weapon has a firepower of 900, a reload of 2.7 seconds, and 10 rounds available. It’s known as the best shotgun in class because of its high firepower and wide range of attack.
With great power also comes great consequences. This shotgun lacks upgrades and has a small capacity. Using this gun against a close, single target is also a downfall because it does work better with crowd control. However, the fact you can pick up this gun for free during Chapter 3-3 (in the second dock area) makes up for its imperfections.
7 H&K MP5
The MP5 is an all-around solid choice of weapon. It’s a submachine gun that has 120 firepower, 1.2 seconds reload speed, and a 150-round capacity.
The biggest positives of the gun are its high accuracy and piercing ability. These things make it particularly useful against armored and shielded targets. It’s easy to find too, as the weapon is directly in front of you at the start of Chapter 2 inside a metal case.
6 S75
The recent Resident Evil remakes have some great weapons, but neither includes a sniper. RE5, on the other hand, includes several, with the S75 being among the best. In Chapter 2-1, you can find the weapon in a metal case during the section where Kirk is giving you air support. It has a damage of 2000, a reload time of 3.3 seconds, and a 50-round capacity after it’s fully upgraded.
The weapon doesn’t have a semi-automatic firing mode, so the fire rate isn’t great. However, its high capacity, strong firepower, and stability outweigh the negatives. It also has the highest stopping power of all the snipers.
5 SIG 556
The SIG 556 assault rifle features the fastest reload of all machine guns, which is what makes it so good. Fully upgraded, it has a firepower of 180, a reload speed of 1.42 seconds, and a capacity of 80.
It can’t quite match the other machine guns for power and capacity, but a high rate of fire makes up for it. To obtain the gun, simply take it out of the case next to the south conveyer belt in Chapter 5-2.
4 H & K PSG-1
While the S75 has good stability and the Dragunov has high firepower, the H&K PSG-1 rifle has the fastest reload time, allowing it to put in more shots. In addition, it has the most powerful zoom for the scope and a semi-auto upgrade.
Overall, the rifle’s stats are as follows: 1200 firepower, reload speed of 1.37, 15-capacity round, and a scope magnification of 2. You can pick it up during Chapter 5-3 in the room where you turn on the power.
3 Hydra
Another strong shotgun is the Hydra. It has a damage of 550, a reload of 3.3 seconds, and has 10 rounds. Overall, this shotgun is better than the M3 and one of the best guns to use. It has a great attack range, as it’s deadly from both close and medium distances.
When upgraded in attack range, it can triple or quadruple its damage, whereas the M3 has no such upgrade. The reload speed, however, is kind of low, and that may hinder you slightly. Getting the Hydra requires you to get all of the upgrades for the Ithaca M37 and then purchase the new gun for 30,000 gold.
2 Gatling Gun
The Gatling Gun causes 450 damage per bullet, and because of the gun’s exceptional fire rate, its damage per second is very high. Also, it comes with a large ammo box, which protects you from bullets aimed at the back. What’s more, inside the giant thing is unlimited ammo. Just make sure not to wear the box while using the Hydra since it obstructs aim ability - perhaps your co-op partner can hold the shotgun.
Although, getting it requires that you first buy all of the upgrades for the VZ61. Then you need to spend 50,000 on the powerful gun.
1 The Lightning Hawk
With a damage of 3000, a reload of 1.36, and an 8-round capacity, the Lightning Hawk is one of the best magnums and weapons in Resident Evil 5. Unlike the other magnums in the game, the gun is built for speed. It has a high fire rate and a quick reload speed, meaning it’s much faster than the more powerful M500.
The best part is it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to acquire or upgrade. Although, that doesn’t mean picking it up is simple as you must do it during the Chapter 5-3 boss fight against Wesker. During the battle, run upstairs to the sarcophagus and open it to find the gun. Just watch out for the series’ best villain, who’s hunting you down.
