Killing Floor 2 is a first-person shooter that puts the player (either solo or multiplayer) against waves and waves of swarming Zed. The Zed are basically fast-moving zombie-like creatures, but some also have abilities and/or carry weapons. Surviving until the last wave and defeating the boss can be a grind, so it’s important for players to pick the right perk for their preferred play-style (perks are character classes in Killing Floor 2).

Any character can improve in every perk; this makes the choice of perks much more important than the choice of character. Characters do have favorite weapons, but this only provides some unique dialogue when the favored weapons are used. Each character also has a personality of their own, as well as custom dialogue for every situation – some of which is quite amusing.

10 Worst – Hayato Tanaka

Hayato Tanaka is originally from Okinawa, Japan, but moved to L.A. in an attempt to be an actor. He was stuck portraying clichéd criminal type characters. Hayato is generally disliked by many players due to his favorite weapons list being almost exclusively melee weapons, and melee weapons are not the most popular among players.

This gives players a tough choice – use melee weapons with Hayato and hear his unique dialogue with them, or use guns like everybody else. Hayato does have some interesting lines of dialogue he’ll shout during play; but his personality seems less “fleshed-out” than the other characters.

9 Best – Anton Strasser

Anton Strasser is a German soldier from the past that was cryogenically frozen by Hans Volter after being injured at the battle of Stalingrad. He has awakened just in time to help fight off the Zed, and maybe get some revenge against Volter. Strasser’s favorite weapons are a good mix of rifles and explosives.

During the mid-tier waves, when things are starting to get interesting, players can use some decent weapons like the P90 and be able to hear his unique dialogue with them. Strasser is the only character in Killing Floor 2 that seems to take defeating the Zeds seriously – probably because he was a soldier. He has some good lines. When using the Winchester 1894, he will say, “How the West was won.”

8 Worst – Rae Higgins

Rae Higgins is Australian by birth, but Rae is not many players’ favorite, and she is usually one of the first characters mentioned when a player is asked about their least favorite. This might be due to her heavy accent; it might also be due to her Rockabilly style in clothes.

Hearing her clearly while in the midst of a chaotic battle can be difficult due to her high-pitched voice. As with Hayato, a lot of players simply don’t like Rae’s lines of dialogue – a large portion of which revolve around personal appearances. Many of Rae’s favorite weapons are some of the best; like the Kriss SMG and Microwave Gun.

7 Best – Mr. Foster

Mr. Foster is a favorite of many players due to his snappy dialogue delivered with a thick English accent; there is a very “Bullet-Toothed Tony” feel to the things he says. Mr. Foster was a day trader when the Zeds began attacking, but he has proven to be a capable warrior.

It is also easy to spot Mr. Foster on the battlefield due to his gas mask. Some great Mr. Foster quotes are, “We’re doing great team, keep watching what I’m doing,” “Cheer up mate, you’ll be dead in a sec,” and “Kaboom!” Some of his favorite weapons are top tier, like the AA-12 Auto Shotgun and the Kriss SMG.

6 Worst – Reverend David Alberts

Reverend Alberts’ Scottish accent is so thick it makes Scrooge McDuck sound like he’s speaking the Queen’s English. Sean Connery was clearly the inspiration for this character. This thick accent, and the fact he seems to mumble a lot of his dialogue, may be reasons why not many players use him.

There are some who don’t like the religious-themed dialogue Rev. Alberts will say from time to time; though most of Rev. Alberts quotes are very forgettable. His favorite weapons are a mix of submachine guns and Sharpshooter class weapons. However, when using a Firebug weapon he will occasionally say, “Eat some hellfire!”

5 Best – Ana Larive

Ana is favorite for many Killing Floor 2 players. She has an accent that seems to shift around a bit from French, Italian, and Russian. Before the Zeds began attacking, Ana was a lost soul wandering across Europe. Now, instead of fighting the “establishment” she is fighting against the Zed invasion.

Ana is perfectly suited for the Firebug perk as many of her favorite weapons are from that perk. One of her favorite weapons is the HX25 Grenade Pistol; which is a Zed-killing machine. Some great lines from Ana are, “Don’t move, or no heal…please,” “Taste the Dragonsbeath,” and “Enjoy the boom-boom.”

4 Worst – Tom Banner

There are a lot of Killing Floor 2 players that main with Tom, and love everything about him; however, the same reasons that cause players to like Tom also drive a lot of players away. His clichéd, over-the-top medieval knight’s dialogue can get tiresome after many hours of playing.

Tom Banner is like a worker at a Renaissance Fair that refuses to break character for anything. It’s not all bad with Tom though – his full plate metal armor looks pretty cool and makes him hard to miss on the battlefield. Not surprisingly, his favorite weapons are melee weapons, and he has some amusing lines of dialogue with them.

3 Best – Classic Masterson

Classic Masterson sounds like a proper English Army officer. Doctor Who fans will immediately begin thinking of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart when hearing his dialogue.

As a soldier, he is good at shouting his dialogue during battle. When he yells out that he is reloading, or there is a weapon available, or asks a player to stay still for healing, it is not hard to hear him. This makes team-play a little easier to coordinate. Some of Masterson’s dialogue is hilarious; some examples are, “I bet one of you wets your pants before this is over,” and “I want drugs now.”

2 Worst – D.A.R.

D.A.R. (Domestic Assistance Robot) was an advanced prototype robotic assistant that was reprogrammed to fight the Zeds. D.A.R.’s dialogue is just reused lines of dialogue played in a robotic voice and through a filter that sounds like it’s trying to replicate the speaker at a drive-thru window.

Only a few lines of dialogue are actually unique to D.A.R. It is beyond difficult to hear what D.A.R. is saying during a major shoot-out. His skins are also nothing special. Most are just a new color or texture-map. D.A.R. is a decent fighter though; a lot of his favorite weapons (like the Kriss SMG and Auto Shotgun) are top tier.

1 Best – Santa

Santa (or Bad**s Santa) is a roughened, battle-hardened version of jolly St. Nick. As if that isn’t enough to make players want to pick him, Santa is voiced by legendary actor Gary Busey. This “ups” the crazy factor of the character tremendously. It doesn’t seem like Gary Busey voicing Santa would be a good fit, but the result is absolutely perfect.

Some classic lines from Santa are; “Feel the power of Christmas,” and “Stay down, naughty.” Truthfully though, some of Santa’s funniest dialogue bits are the unintelligible grunts and his drunken “Ho, ho, ho.” Santa also has a nice variety of favorite weapons.
