The next Hearthstone expansion is set to be revealed shortly, but several leaks seem to have blown the surprise. If true, the three leaks below point to The Academy of Scholomance, an expansion themed around the original end-game dungeon in the Plaguelands of World of Warcraft, filled to the brim with eager young students, both alive and undead.
The most recent leak came from the Italian website multiplayer.it, featuring the style of art we expect from most expansions. However, this could still be a fake logo, as the green leaves or perhaps vines at the bottom of the logo to not seem to reference anything specific within that place. On the other hand, the violet insignia and coloring around the letters is similar to that seen on Ras Frostwhisper and Instructor Malicia.
The other two leaks are more subtle and do not name the place directly. A now-deleted post from China showed off the upcoming Battlegrounds event with a similar style, again tied to a magic user with arms overflowing with scrolls, which could be a student with too much homework. Here again the color scheme matches the leaked logo.
Lastly, longtime leaker jotarun listed a partial assumed press document that supports the idea of Scholomance as a school. First, players would receive two Free Epic cards for logging during the launch event, with the card titled “Transferred Student”, and second, Kel’Thuzad would be an available Hero Portrait and Card Back, presumably for the Mage class.
Scholomance would be a logical space in which to thematically design an expansion, as always taking a more playful tone with an otherwise dark and evil place. An expansion centered around this space would likely feature cards related to the learning of Necromancy, and the effects of failure.
Cards we could expect to see include Blood Steward of Kirtonos, a Succubus that guards the Reliquary. The Barov family would also make for an excellent addition to the game. Lady Illucia Barov was a powerful Warlock that also had the ability to Mind Control players, Lord Alexei Barov is a Death Knight from long before players could roll the class, and Jandice Barov is a magic user that can conjure illusions of herself and banish players. All of these would be excellent for making interesting cards in an expansion!
We will know in a short while if these leaks have proven to be true, or simply a series of coincidental but unrelated series of discoveries. Either way, speculating about new content is just as fun as seeing it revealed!
