Dedicated handheld consoles may be a thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean cute little novelty devices aren’t still in vogue. Announced by Japanese peripheral manufacturer Gametech, the officially licensed Tetris Mini handheld console will be hitting Japanese store shelves on October 8, 2020. Featuring a pocket-sized shell and keychain attachment, the device looks like the perfect gift for any Tetris fan that can’t go 10 feet without dropping some blocks.

Going for 1,500 yen (roughly $15), the handheld features a 28 mm x 37 mm monochrome LCD screen and is available in six different colors -one based on the original Game Boy’s color schemes-. Packed into the device are three different game modes. These are “Marathon,” “20 Line Mode,” and “Ultra Mode.” The device has a rechargeable battery that is powered by a micro-USB lede, though no battery length was mentioned.

A small trailer on Gametech’s Twitter account shows that the screen uses tech similar to the Tiger Electronics handhelds from the 90s. I assume it is much higher quality, but I wouldn’t expect an utterly flawless representation of the popular puzzle title. Those calculator screens are fairly limited in what they can produce.

It doesn’t seem likely that Gametech will end up releasing this trinket in western territories, but you can pre-order one from its official website. Shipping costs might not make it worthwhile, but having a cute little Tetris handheld does sound mighty appealing.
