Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ version 1.2.1. update has patched out the postbox item cloning hack and various other exploits.

The postbox exploit, which involves sending mail to a secondary character and using their postbox to duplicate items, will no longer work if you have downloaded the 1.2.1. update. Players who haven’t updated their game can still use the various exploits, so folks who still wish to duplicate items using known glitches might want to hold off on getting the patch. However, be aware that you need to be fully updated in order to play New Horizons online.

BLAINES, a YouTuber who posted guides to most of the exploits patched out with version 1.2.1., speculates that Nintendo launched the patch in response to a now-infamous New Horizons protest by PETA. The protest, which involved PETA activists recording themselves storming Blathers’ museum to protest the captivity of the game’s fish and bugs, has garnered much attention and even more ridicule. As the 1.2.1. update fixes what Nintendo calls “issues to further ensure an enjoyable gameplay experience”–in other words, the duplication glitches–BLAINES’ speculation is almost certainly baseless.

New Horizons is currently in the middle of its International Museum Day celebration event, the Stamp Rally. The event runs through May 31st and involves collecting stamps from booths hidden in the museum’s various exhibits.
