Some players might think that a pet fairy is the end-all, be-all of the game, but accessories are the make or break of a successful Terraria build. There are also literally hundreds to choose from – especially now that Terraria has reached its final form: 1.4, Journey’s End.

Which accessories you take really depends on which build you’ve gone for: magic build, a Yoyo build, a ranged build, etc. However, there are also a few accessories that should make their way into any build. With the console release of the update hopefully coming soon, here’s our guide to the best accessories in Terraria.

Updated July 21, 2022 by Jacqueline Zalace: There are tons of accessories to choose from in Terraria. Because of this, we’ve updated this guide to have a few additional choices, as well as information about the effects of each item.

12 Cloud In A Bottle

  • Effects:
  • Double Jump

You can’t overlook the Cloud in a Bottle. Although it’s one of the first accessories you find in Terraria, it’s still one of the best. From placing down blocks and scrambling up and down ropes, Cloud in a Bottle is the first accessory that really changes how Terraria is played. This makes it an essential item for any new player.

  • Double Jump

Cloud in a Bottle gives the player the ability to double-jump, which is great for spelunking and getting out of tricky situations. You can find the Cloud in a Bottle in Underground and Cavern chests.

Later, you can combine the Cloud in a Bottle with either a Shiny Red Balloon or a Whoopie Cushion at the Tinkerer’s Workshop. It’s recommended that you craft the Fart in a Jar (Cloud in a Bottle and Whoopie Cushion) for extra jump height.

Cloud in a Bottle boosts your jump height from five blocks to 11 blocks.

11 Magic Mirror

  • Effects:
  • Return to Spawn Point

The almighty Magic Mirror is hands-down one of the most useful items in the game, whether you’re just starting afresh or about to take down the Moon Lord. You can use Recall Potions until you find the Magic Mirror for an identical effect. Later in the game, the Magic Mirror is used to craft the Cell Phone when combined with a PDA at a Tinkerer’s Workshop.

  • Return to Spawn Point

This accessory teleports you to your spawn, either where you started in the world or next to your bed. Acquired in Underground and Cavern chests, the Magic Mirror is basically the one accessory every player is looking out for at the start of Terraria. Journeying up and down from the caves can be a nightmare without it.

10 PDA

  • Effects:
  • Displays:
  • Fishing information
  • Weather
  • Moon phase
  • Current elevation
  • Distance
  • Time
  • Nearby treasure
  • Speed
  • DPS
  • Enemies killed
  • Amount of nearby creatures
  • Rare creatures

The PDA is an endgame item that combines the functionality of several informational accessories. It will display the name of nearby rare enemies, display how fast your character is going, what the weather’s like, and highlights nearby valuable objects and lots more. The crafting tree for the PDA is very complicated, requiring various other accessories, like the Depth Meter, Compass, Tally Counter, Stopwatch, and more.

You can also use the Magic Mirror to escape a fall if you’re quick enough to activate it.

  • Displays:

  • Fishing information

  • Weather

  • Moon phase

  • Current elevation

  • Distance

  • Time

  • Nearby treasure

  • Speed

  • DPS

  • Enemies killed

  • Amount of nearby creatures

To get the PDA you need to combine the GPS, Fish Finder, Goblin Tech, and R.E.K 3000 at the Tinkerer’s Workshop. You don’t have to be in Hardmode to access this item, but gathering what you need to complete it is still going to take dozens of in-game hours. Don’t forget to account for all of the boss battles, too.

9 Mana Cloak

  • Effects:
  • Reduce mana cost by 8%
  • Automatically use mana potions
  • Mana stars will fall after you take damage

The Mana Cloak is an essential accessory for any endgame mage build, although it is available to craft pre-Hardmode. It combines the functionality of several other mage accessories all in one item, decreasing mana costs by eight percent, allowing the automatic consumption of potions, and causing Mana stars to appear when the player is damaged. This means you can collect Mana stars while you’re fighting.

  • Reduce mana cost by 8%
  • Automatically use mana potions
  • Mana stars will fall after you take damage

It’s crafted by combining the Mana Flower and Mana Potion at the Tinkerer’s Workshop. The Mana Flower is crafted with a Nature’s Gift and a Mana Potion at a Tinkerer’s Workshop. You should always aim for this if you’re going full magic mode.

8 The Ankh Shield

  • Effects:
  • Immunity to knockback and most debuffs

The Ankh Shield is one of the best endgame accessories for a melee build. Not only does it increase overall defense by four, but it also prevents almost every debuff in the game, including Slow, Confused, and Silence.

  • Immunity to knockback and most debuffs

This Hardmode item is only available after collecting and crafting all the other component parts and combining them at a Tinkerer’s Workshop. The last two full items needed are the Obsidian Shield and the Ankh Charm. There’s a pretty complex crafting tree for the Ankh Shield, requiring various other items and accessories, such as the Obsidian Skull, Medicated Bandage, Armor Bracing, and much more.

7 Celestial Shell

  • Effects:
  • Transform into a werewolf at night
  • Transform into a merfolk when in water

Werewolf? Mermaid? Why not both? The Celestial Shell offers a huge range of stat-boosts depending on what time of day it is or whether you’re fighting underwater. This endgame Hardmode item is one of the best accessories in the game and fits into pretty much any Terraria build.

  • Transform into a werewolf at night
  • Transform into a merfolk when in water

To get access to the Celestial Shell you’ll need to combine the Moon Sheld and Celestial Stone at a Tinkerer’s Workshop. This is a pretty long process of crafting, collecting, and combining items, so you won’t get your hands on the Celestial Shell until much later into the game. Some of the key items you’ll need to craft it include the Moon Charm, Neptune’s Shell, the Moon Stone, and the Sun Stone.

6 Lavaproof Tackle Bag

  • Effects:
  • Fishing line will never break
  • Lower chance of consuming bait
  • Increase fishing power

To fish or not to fish: that is the question. In Terraria, the answer is almost always yes. The loot available from fishing makes the effort worthwhile, and if you want the ultimate fishing build you need the Lavaproof Tackle Bag.

  • Fishing line will never break
  • Lower chance of consuming bait
  • Increase fishing power

This accessory puts every single fishing accessory - the Angler Earring, the Tackle Box, the Lavaproof Fishing Hook - and puts them into one item slot. It will prevent your fishing line from breaking, allows you to fish in lava, and increases overall fishing power by ten percent. You will need to be able to fish in lava to complete the Angler quests for extra rewards.

5 Yoyo Bag

  • Effects:
  • Use 2 Yoyos with master skill

The Yoyo build is one of the most fun ways to play Terraria, and the Yoyo Bag is the crowning item to an all-powerful Yoyo build. This accessory combines the functionality of every other Yoyo item so you have more room left to diversify your build.

  • Use 2 Yoyos with master skill

The Yoyo bag increases the range of all Yoyos, spawns a duplicate Yoyo when you attack, and creates two mini-Yoyos that also deal damage. Combined with a decent set of melee accessories and you’ve got all the kit you need to tackle Hardmode Terraria. You’ll need String (of any color), a Yoyo Glove, and a Counterweight (of any color) and combine them all at a Tinkerer’s Workshop.

4 Papyrus Scarab

  • Effects:
  • Increase number of minions by 1
  • Increase damage and knockback power of minions

The Summoner build in Terraria got a lot of love in 1.4, Journey’s End. It’s more viable than ever to pursue a full Summoner build, and the Papyrus Scarab is one of those essential late-game items needed to complete the build.

  • Increase number of minions by 1
  • Increase damage and knockback power of minions

This is a Hardmode accessory that combines the Hercules Beetle and Necromantic Scroll together. When completed at a Tinkerer’s Workshop, the Papyrus Scarab increases knockback damage via minions, increases overall summon damage by 15 percent, and allows you to spawn one extra minion. The Necromantic Scroll is dropped by Mourning Wood during the Pumpkin Moon Event, and the Hercules Beetle is sold by the Witch Doctor for 40 gold while he’s living in the Jungle.

3 Sniper Scope

  • Effects:
  • Increase gun range
  • Increase ranged damage and crit. strike chance by 10%

This is Terraria, not Call of Duty, but you can still get your hands on a Sniper Scope. This Hardmode Ranged accessory is perfect for those who’ve opted to use guns and bows instead of swords and silly little wands. You’ll want this accessory if you want to complete the best Ranged build in Terraria 1.4.

  • Increase gun range
  • Increase ranged damage and crit. strike chance by 10%

The Sniper Scope is crafted from two other accessories - the Rifle Scope and Destroyer Emblem - at the Tinkerer’s Workshop. It increases ranged critical chance by ten percent, increases overall ranged damage by ten percent, and increases view range with a gun in hand.

2 Magiluminescence

  • Effects:
  • Increases movement speed by 20%
  • Increase acceleration and deceleration speed
  • Provides light around you

It’s no secret that Terraria can be quite dark. When you are caving in the depths or exploring at night, you may need a bit of light; that’s where Magiluminescene comes in. With this accessory, you can light the area around you.

  • Increases movement speed by 20%
  • Increase acceleration and deceleration speed
  • Provides light around you

A movement speed increase isn’t anything new, but Magiluminescene stacks with items like the Hermes Boots, which also increase movement speed. These two items together can have you flying around the map in no time.

1 Terraspark Boots

  • Effects:
  • Allows flight
  • Run super fast
  • More mobility on ice
  • Ability to walk on water, honey, and lava
  • Immunity to fire blocks
  • Immunity to lava for 7 seconds
  • Reduced lava damage

Lastly, we have the Terraspark Boots. These boots are pretty helpful, considering all the effects listed above. With Terraspark Boots, you can expertly dash around the map, running and jumping through tunnels. If you do happen to land in lava, you won’t take as much damage either.

  • Allows flight
  • Run super fast
  • More mobility on ice
  • Ability to walk on water, honey, and lava
  • Immunity to fire blocks
  • Immunity to lava for 7 seconds
  • Reduced lava damage

This pre-Hardmode accessory is made by combining the Frostspark Boots and Lava Waders at the Tinkerer’s Workshop.
