There are an insane amount of indie titles being released every month, and with so much content to get through – it can be hard to find where to start. Luckily for you, we’ve rounded up some of the best games to come out in July this year.

Primal Light

Action-platformers are pretty popular in the indie scene, which makes sense because of the tight budgets and small teams that work on them. However, they can start to run together if you play enough of them. Primal Light stands out among these because of its grisly aesthetic. The game is also insanely difficult as you only have a set amount of lives and if you use them up – you’ll have to start over. It’s a lovingly crafted game with a brutal, retro aesthetic.

Roki

Not all indie titles are recreations of retro games. Some carve out their own path and end up with something really unique. Roki is one of those titles. The game follows the titular character as she explores a world filled with monsters and ice. Players explore and solve puzzles as they unravel the mystery of Roki’s past. It’s a unique experience based on Scandinavian folklore, and it is great for anyone looking for something memorable and different.

Monster Crown

A whole generation of gamers grew up loving Pokemon. However, if you’ve grown tired of the series’ newer aesthetics and just want something fresh in the same vein of the oldies – Monster Crown is the game for you. It’s a dark fantasy game that has players traveling the world and collecting monsters as they try to stop an evil young woman from gaining an ancient power. The title is more mature than Pokemon, and it has enough mechanics to make it more than a copy/paste of the formula. It’s well worth the time, and it has a sweet Game Boy Color aesthetic.
