Stats are the backbones of most turn-based RPGs, and Pokemon is no exception. You can’t just invest all your eggs into one stat and call it a day, but being the best at something will certainly give you a nice edge in battle.

That’s what most of the Pokemon on this list can claim, as they can say they are the best in particular stats. When examining them, their competition for that title and how that works in conjunction with its other stats will be looked into and taken into account.

Note: This list will not include Eternamax Eternatus, who otherwise would’ve taken the spots for HP (255), Defense (250), and Special Defense (250).

9 HP: Blissey

Arguably the most well-known for being the best at a certain stat, Blissey boasts the highest HP stat in the game at 255. That works especially great with its 135 Special Defense, making it one of the most relied upon special walls in competitive Pokemon.

The only Pokemon that even comes close is, in fact, its pre-evolution Chansey, who reaches 250. The next four Pokemon not from the Normal-type line are comprised of Guzzlord (223), Zygarde-Complete (216), Regidrago (200), and Wobbuffet (190). In terms of competitive usage, Alomomola (165) and Snorlax (160) are also usually relied upon for their HP stat.

8 Attack: Kartana

Barring any Mega Evolutions, Kartana scrapes its way to the top spot for best Attack stat at 181. That extra 1 Attack puts it just above Deoxys in its Attack forme. Among Pokemon available in Sword and Shield, Kyurem-Black and Zacian-Crowned are tied for second place at 170. Ice Rider Calyrex and Rampardos (165 each) are not far behind.

Taking Mega Evolutions into account, Kartana sits only at third place behind Mega Mewtwo X (190) and a surprising runner-up, Mega Heracross (185). Primal Groudon and Mega Rayquaza tie with Deoxys-Attack at 180, and Mega Garchomp ties with Kyurem-Black and Zacian-Crowned at 170.

7 Special Attack: Deoxys-Attack

Deoxys-Attack does hold the title for best special attacker, having the equally good Special Attack stat of 180. However, as stated, it’s not in Sword and Shield. Xurkitree then takes the top spot at 173, with Kyurem-White in second place at 170.

When looking at Mega Evolutions, Mewtwo once again has everyone beat, this time as Mega Mewtwo Y (194). Deoxys-Attack then ties with Primal Kyogre and Mega Rayquaza for second, followed by Mega Alakazam (175), Xurkitree, and a tie between Mega Gengar, Kyurem-White, and Hoopa-Unbound (170).

6 Overall Attack: Deoxys-Attack

When looking at both Attack and Special Attack, Deoxys in its Attack forme averages out to 180. That’s without Mega Evolution, though, as ties it with Mega Rayquaza in that regard.

Both Mega Mewtwo forms come pretty close, equally averaging out to 172, followed by Ultra Necrozma (167), Primal Groudon, and Kyogre (165), Hoopa-Unbound (165), Mega Diancie (160), and base forme Deoxys and Rayquaza (150).

5 Defense: Shuckle

Surprisingly, this otherwise useless, unmovable turtle-like thing that makes berry juice has all Legendary Pokemon beat. The small red shell Shuckle carries apparently protects it to the tune of 230 Defense, which ties it with two Mega Evolutions (Aggron and Steelix). Only three other Pokemon reach the 200 threshold, namely Stakataka (211), Regirock (200), and regular Steelix (200). That’s followed by a drastic drop-off to Avalugg (184), and a tie between Mega Slowbro, regular Aggron, and Cloyster (180).

However, that 230 Defense barely helps out Shuckle thanks to its pathetic 20 HP. It can only take a few hits just the same and will get decimated by moves like Seismic Toss and Night Shade.

4 Special Defense: Shuckle

And what do you know? Shuckle also has 230 Special Defense, as stupid as that seems. As mentioned, that’s offset quite a bit by 20 HP, making it just as unsuitable a special wall.

However, it has even less competition on the special side, with only Regice reaching the 200 mark on the dot. The next best are Primal Kyogre and Deoxys-Defense (160), then Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Florges at 154, then a six-way tie for fourth place at 150 (Mega Latias, Carbink, Diancie, Goodra, Probopass, Registeel).

3 Overall Defense: Shuckle

This list wasn’t meant to be a Shuckle convention, but obviously, no other Pokemon can top both defensive stats averaging out to 230.

The Pokemon with the second-highest average is Deoxys-Defense at 160, followed by Bastiodon (153), Carbink, Diancie, and the first three Legendary Titans (150), Toxapex (147), Crowned Zamazenta (145), and Lugia (142). Of course, all eight of these Pokemon have substantially better HP stats than Shuckle, so they are all effectively better walls.

2 Speed: Regieleki

After going off the rails for the defensive stats, the list now moves on to a Pokemon where being the best at its stat actually matters: Regieleki. Boasting a massive 200 Speed has given it incredible viability as soon as it was introduced in the Crown Tundra, both as a utility Pokemon and especially as a suicide lead.

The previous heir to that throne was Deoxys-Speed at 180, and the second-fastest Pokemon accessible in Sword and Shield is Ninjask at 160. Pheromosa follows that up at 151, and then there’s another six-way tie at 150 (Electrode, Mega Alakazam, Mega Aerodactyl, Shadow Rider Calyrex, base, and Attack-forme Deoxys).

1 Base Stat Total: Arceus

As has been with the other stats, the title in this list for best base stat total was given barring Mega Evolutions and such. Arceus holds that title at 720. Zacian and Zamazenta also reach that mark, but only in their enhanced Crowned formes.

The keywords “barring Mega Evolutions” apply especially for base stat total, as a whopping six Pokemon formes surpass the 720 mark. Five of them are thanks to Mega Evolutions, making the winner a three-way tie between the two Mega Mewtwo’s and Mega Rayquaza (780), and the runner-up a two-way tie between Primal Groudon and Kyogre (770). The remaining one, Ultra Necrozma (754), can only be activated with a Z-Crystal.
