Video games have become such a popular medium that it competes with movies, television series, and comics in many ways. When it comes to storytelling, certain games can have memorable stories and characters of their own. Kratos, Sephiroth, and Link are just as known in the geek world as Batman, Captain Kirk, and Indiana Jones.

Video game characters might be fun to play without superpowers, but there are plenty of video game characters with very cool powers. Many of those powers are just similar to things we are used to seeing in pop culture. Others are completely original and extremely fun to use.

10 Tim’s Time Rewind - Braid

This power was such a revolutionary used in the game Braid. The developers pulled out a Mario-like platformer with a twist. It is not your typical platformer; it is a special puzzle game. However, the puzzles can only be solved by solving platforming challenges while using the main character’s gimmick. Tim, Braid’s protagonist, can reverse time. That ability makes Tim immortal.

Upon dying, players can reverse time, and Tim will return to the moment before dying. If players just hold the key that triggers this ability, it is possible to rewind the whole stage.

9 Corvo’s Gifts - Dishonored

Every player who enjoyed Dishonored must have wished to be able to teleport like Corvo at least once. Many players believe that his powers are better than Emily’s in Dishonored 2. There’s a great sensation of freedom by toying around with the gifts that the Outsider gave him. And it goes way beyond just blinking around to instantly backstab people.

Corvo can see in the dark, possess people, summon animals, and even control time for a while. He cannot rewind time, but he is able to completely stop it.

8 Rose’s Soul Power - Street Fighter

Street Fighter has many characters who have amazing abilities. However, most of them are not superpowers. They are techniques and skills that are mastered via a long martial training that can take a lifetime. That’s why many fighters are based on real people. Rose is martially talented, but she also has Soul Power.

Rose can see the future, read minds, have sudden premonitions, control objects with her mind, teleport, and even shoot magical projectiles. She might not be the strongest fighter in the series, but her powers go way beyond fighting. The Soul Power would be useful to anyone who had it.

7 Kratos’ Godhood - God Of War

From the looks of it, the Greek God of War is the whole package. Kratos has rapid regeneration, a god’s strength, enhanced endurance, and doesn’t seem to age. Being from Sparta, he is an amazing fighter as well. He might be just a brute, but being able to bounce back from nearly any injury is already an amazing power.

If being nearly immortal isn’t good enough, Kratos can quickly master magical abilities and weapons. His godhood is basically a bunch of uninspired powers that no one would ever dislike having.

6 Smeargle’s Sketch - Pokemon

Pokemon is a franchise with too many cool creatures that have amazing powers. However, this one is interesting for its real-life applications. By having Smeargle’s Sketch, a person would be capable of replicating literally any action they can witness. That could go be learning a new dance or building a space bus.

It is unclear if by replicating something, Sketch would make the user understand it. Either way, there way too many things that one could instantly be good at with Sketch as a superpower.

5 Sephiroth’s Unity - Final Fantasy

It is true; Sephiroth is insane. Even though he is the bad guy, most Final Fantasy fans think of him as a great, evil villain. Possibly because his powers are beyond amazing. The first class Soldier fused with an all-powerful alien entity and the planet itself. An achievement that granted him the closest thing to godhood in Final Fantasy VII.

Sephiroth exists at a cellular level. His mind travels the Lifestream. He can make new bodies, change his shape, use magic without Materia, and so much more. He is also a super-soldier who is arguably the best swordsman in the game’s world.

4 Dante’s Demonic Heritage - Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry gave us one of the most beloved characters in video game history. Dante is cool in his own silly way. People love him for so much more than his powers, but his powers are great nonetheless. Thanks to his demon father, Dante is capable of doing things that normal humans can only dream about.

He can nearly instantly regenerate from otherwise deadly wounds. Dante also has super strength, super speed, super reflexes, and many other super things. He can even turn into a demon and enhance his already amazing powers.

3 Alucard’s Vampiric Heritage - Castlevania

Being a vampire does not sound good, but it seems Castlevania’s Alucard got only the good side of it. Dracula’s son is able to walk under sunlight and disguise himself as a mortal. He never ages, and he is incredibly hard to kill. His powers only grow stronger as time goes by.

Alucard can turn into a bat, a wolf, and even into a mist. He has super speed, super strength, and he can nearly fly. The son of Dracula can also shoot fireballs, something any gamer would love being able to do.

2 Kat’s Gravity Control - Gravity Rush

Kat has an odd power, but also one of the greatest. Flying will always be one of the best things someone can wish for. Kat from Gravity Rush can control gravity at will, allowing her to fly. Her powers are not limited to herself, though. If flying was not cool enough, making anything fly certainly is.

Since her power is gravity control, the weight of something does not mean anything when she is directing where things should go to. Besides being cool and providing great gameplay, everything about her powers seems useful.

1 Maxwell’s Creation Power - Scribblenauts

When talking about power, Maxwell is not a character that most people will pay attention to. However, this would be a mistake. Maxwell is possibly the most powerful character to have ever been created in video games. His power is willing things into existence by writing words in his notebook.

This is the power of a true god. He creates food, clothes, GPUs, and any dessert just by writing the name of what he wants. If it doesn’t seem overpowered enough, but Maxwell can even create life.
