Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is not an easy game. You actually start the RPG as a reincarnated soul partly because the gods took pity on your poor being after their rogue gigantic brother, Eothas, stepped on your home and squashed you with its foot. So now you owe them and you have to chase down Eothas all because of that opportune oopsie.
Oh, and that same god also seeks to undo the world and remake it into his image, so now you’re forced to confront him. What can a measly mortal such as you do against such overwhelming omnipotence? The game gets generous with its weapons, some of which can be used to poke holes, in Eothas’ toenails. These weapons let you poke those holes deeper, faster, or bigger - take your pick.
Updated October 28, 2021, by Sid Natividad: Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is such a complex and in-depth RPG that a handful of weapon selections simply won’t do. As it stands, there’s plenty of options in the game for every build. Pillars of Eternity 2 weapons are special in that they’re more generous to players compared to what most other CRPGs have on offer.
Thus, we deem it necessary to add more of the best weapons in Pillars of Eternity 2 so that you get to be more flexible with your builds. Some of these weapons are not your stereotypical RPG powerhouses. Others are subtle yet significant tweaks to certain builds or playstyles. You might want to try them out in subsequent playthroughs to spice things up.
15 Marux Amanth
- Weapon type: Dagger
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 14
- Weapon bonus(es): +5 Accuracy
Marux Amanth doesn’t really look intimidating and all. It’s just a dagger that requires a Paladin, Priest, or Rogue wielder. That already limits its usages but once you see the enhancement opportunities for it, the possibilities become more fun.
The Corona of the Soul enhancement for Marux Amanth gives the wielder a chance to periodically explode and deal AoE burn damage to surrounding enemies. Pair that with fast attacks and some invisibility or sneak spells, it becomes one heck of a covert weapon of mass destruction.
14 Grave Calling
- Weapon type:
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 32
- Weapon bonus(es): +10% Damage with Sabre attacks
Grave Calling is a fast and effective weapon for wannabe swashbuckler. It’s not exceptionally powerful compared to the other sabre or one-handed selections but it makes for a good sidearm or off-hand weapon. In some cases, you can even make it as a primary and it will still deal a lot of damage.
The Legendary enhancement on the weapon boosts its damage astronomically. Paired with the fast attack speed, you’ll be slicing enemies to bits in no time. Other options include a very small chance to Freeze the target and better accuracy.
13 Seeker’s Fang
- Weapon type: Rapier
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 20
- Weapon bonus(es): +5 Accuracy
Another weapon that would make an excellent off-hander is the Seeker’s Fang. It’s a rapier so that attacks are also fast and also precise, thanks to the accuracy bonus. Damage-wise, it’s not as impressive as a sabre or even a standard sword but as always, the weapon makes up for it with its enhancements.
That’s because Seeker’s Fang’s second enhancement, Spider’s Cunning, increases the effectiveness of any trap. For a build or class that relies on those nasty and treacherous tactics, this weapon is gold. Hence, it’s only available for the Cipher, Ranger, Rogue, and Wizard.
12 Citzal’s Spirit Lance
- Weapon type: Pike
- Handing: Two-handed
- Max damage: 44
- Weapon bonus(es): +1.8 weapon reach, Foe AoE: 19-30, Accuracy (+10) vs. Reflex
Citzal’s Spirit Lance isn’t exactly a traditional bootable weapon in Deadfire. It’s actually a spell that conjures up a powerful lance. It’s also two-handed and thus has a slow attack speed but the damage is just too good to pass up.
The weapon bonuses are also incredible and it has an area attack as well. The only caveat is that it’s a Wizard spell so it’s usually only available for them and those who multiclass and dip into the Wizard spell pool. It’s worth it for hybrid spellcasters though, or so-called battlemages.
11 The Willbreaker
- Weapon type: Grimoire
- Handing: N/A
- Max damage: N/A
- Weapon bonus(es): Various powerful spells
If you’re ever looking to build a Wizard or some spellcaster class that can annoy the living patience out of any enemy, then the Willbreaker is the way to go. This grimoire boasts some of the most debilitating crowd control abilities in the game.
It can Petrify, Daze, Confuse, Sicken, Paralyze, make an enemy stuck in a web, and many more effects that might as well end the fight the moment they’re cast. There’s just no escape for enemies that become the target of this nasty book.
10 Pukestabber
- Weapon type: Dagger
- Handing: One-hand
- Max damage: 20
- Weapon bonus(es): +5 Accuracy
If you want to complete the drunken pirate roleplaying but still be high-functioning enough to save the world, per se, then the Pukestabber is the perfect fit. It’s a dagger that’s well-suited for rogue or assassin archetypes.
The enhancements let you attack faster and stab more painfully while also giving the equipped character a hilarious buff (or debuff) while they’re hungover on alcohol. In all seriousness, it’s a good melee glass cannon weapon.
9 Spearcaster
- Weapon type: Arbalest
- Handing: Two-handed
- Max damage: 36
- Weapon Bonus(es): -15% Crit damage
Ranged combat is surprisingly functional and good in Deadfire especially since you get plenty of tank characters like Eder or Pallegina. If you want to maximize them in their default stats or classes, then you’ll want something that shoots arrows from afar, or if you’re a little too optimistic, shoots spears.
Spearcaster is one such weapon. This big arbalest shoots blunt projectiles and while those deal less critical damage, they have a high chance of incapacitating the targets and they also hit more frequently compared to other bows.
8 The Red Hand
- Weapon type: Arquebus
- Handing: Two-handed
- Max damage: 34
- Weapon Bonus(es): -5 Ranged Accuracy, -15% Crit damage, -10 Deflection against Melee weapons, Attacks ignore Arcane Veil
If crossbow bolts are a little too cumbersome for you, then you can harness the impressive power of gunpowder with The Red Hand. This Arquebus fired blunt bullets that also reduce damage and can be inaccurate. It’s also unfit for melee combat.
However, the gun makes up for it with some impressive enhancements that add penetration, cumulative damage bonuses, and practically dealing double damage each shot since it fires off two bullets.
7 Scordeo’s Edge
- Weapon type: Sabre
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 29
- Weapon Bonus(es): +10% Damage with Sabre attacks
Forget about medieval fantasy swords, sabres are all the rage in the Deadfire archipelago where heavy metal armors are death sentences. Scordea’s Edge is one of the best in this regard because of its increased weapon class damage bonus.
Additionally, the enhancements allow you to make an instant attack every once in a while without waiting for recovery. It’s also a great weapon for an off-hand pistol since it increases ranged weapon accuracy.
6 Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff
- Weapon type: Quarterstaff
- Handing: Two-handed
- Max damage: 38
- Weapon Bonus(es): Increased weapon range
Even mages or monks get a good weapon despite their preference for magical combat. The Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff lets them have a good melee weapon that still allows them to strike from a relatively safe range due to the range increase.
For the enhancements, on top of some legendary stat increases, the Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff also grants some buffs to elemental skills and spells, making it ideal for mage-type characters.
5 Kitchen Stove
- Weapon type: Blunderbuss
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 8
- Weapon Bonus(es): -10 Accuracy with Blunderbuss attacks, -15% Crit damage, Fires multiple projectiles
Don’t be put off by the Kitchen Stove’s low maximum damage, it’s an old shotgun and it fires multiple projectiles, making the damage multiplicative. You can also wield it in your off-hand and pair it with the Scordeo’s Edge sabre to offset the accuracy hit.
For its total damage potential, the Kitchen Stove is quite the wild gun as it gives off a chance to proc Wild Shot which makes the projectiles ricochet. Other enhancements flat out increase the damage and decrease the reload time.
4 Whispers of the Endless Paths
- Weapon type: Great sword
- Handing: Two-handed
- Max damage: 20
- Weapon Bonus(es): Increased weapon range, Attacks in a cone, +1 Penetration
All those new weapons can be dizzying, a return to fantasy form, that of a barbarian wielding a big stick, might be warranted for certain playstyles. Whispers of the Endless Paths allows you such freedom though don’t expect it to be subtle, it’s more like a bellow.
This greatsword is quite the package and lets any melee character proficient with the weapon to decimate several enemies in front of them. It adds lots of damage percentages on top of one another with a notable damage type being Crush.
3 Tuotilo’s Palm
- Weapon type: Small shield
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: N/A
- Weapon Bonus(es): +1 enemies Engaged
A shield still counts as a weapon but in this case, Tuotilo’s Palm is one of the greatest pieces of arms that a tank can wield. The weapon bonus pretty much entraps another enemy and locks them in a duel with its wielder. It’s an ideal weapon for a tank Eder.
The shield also gives off additional doses of tankiness for the wielder by adding more deflection. It’s also counted as an off-hand weapon and has its own semi-hidden damage numbers.
2 Stalker’s Patience
- Weapon type: Spear
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 30
- Weapon Bonus(es): +5 Accuracy
Melee weapon users who prefer a more sophisticated weapon than loud and boisterous greatsword can take comfort in the fact that spears exist in the game. Stalker’s Patience is one of those spears and it’s a deadly weapon with all its penetration.
The spear is also legendary, making its damage soar even more. The weapon also causes bleeding damage of sorts and can be even more deadly against anyone who is flanked by the wielder.
1 Modwyr
- Weapon type: Sword
- Handing: One-handed
- Max damage: 22
- Weapon Bonus(es): Usable only by the Watcher
Of course, you might want something tailor-made for your character and the Modwyr is that weapon in Deadfire. Only the Watcher can wield it and you’d want it on him or her anyway due to the astonishing enhancements.
This soulbound weapon sings the symphony and fire and ice (minus the incest and dragons) since attaching with it grants hefty burning or freezing damage depending on the wielder’s health. It’s suitable for playing hot and cold with your enemies, loser gets killed.
