This 2012 thriller took a lot of gamers by surprise and made them feel emotions they probably didn’t want to feel. Remi Michalski has been known for thought-provoking indie games ever since.

While the game isn’t entirely a survival-horror, there are definitely some spine-chilling moments that get the blood pumping. For anyone revisiting the game, here’s how to get through some of the disturbing moments in the game.

10 Chapter 1 - The Queen Of Maggots

The player stumbles upon an old lady in a little house. This lady is found out to be the Queen Of Maggots who is a chilling woman. To progress at this point, the player must have a conversation with the lady.

The Queen Of Maggots invites the player inside and then through to her backyard. The player must follow her. There is a crowbar on the cross. Take it. Susan will return back to the house regardless of agreeing to the lady’s terms or not and will have to blow out a candle to leave. This is the first introduction to one of the most ominous characters in the game.

9 Chapter 1 - Bloody Introduction

Susan finds herself able to unlock a previously locked building. The small establishment will have strange machinery. Susan has to activate the machinery to continue.

The machine is activated by blood. Using the crowbar, Susan must remove the planks and put her arm inside the hole to press a button. The button chops off her arm. This blood will do for the machine and from here all the player can do is run around in a panic. Credits will hit the screen as Susan runs and then a title screen will appear.

8 Chapter 2 - Hallucinations In The Hospital

To find out Ann’s mother’s name the player must bother the receptionist enough to get administered hallucinogenic drugs. To do this, Susan can clog up the toilet with latex gloves (found in her room) then ring the button. Take a shard of glass from the broken bathroom mirror and take a medicine cup from the trash bin. While the receptionist is busy, grab a letter from the front desk. The receptionist will be done with the bathroom. Go in again and press the button. This time she will think Susan needs drugs.

Once hallucinating, the player will notice letters on the mirrors in the bathroom. Write them down. Take the glass shard and pierce the large heart. Use the medicine cup on the heart. Sleep in Susan’s bed to become sober. Go back into the bathroom and turn on the hot tap. Letters will appear. This will spell Sheila, Ann’s mother’s name. This allows Susan to talk to Ann, who will ask for drugs in exchange for her name band. Now Susan has a discharge sheet and matching name band to leave.

7 Chapter 2 -  Doctor X Has Secrets

Being in such a moody setting can insight fear into some and the weird feeling about Doctor X doesn’t help. This is the second time talking to Doctor X but the player has now heard talk that he sleeps with nurses and isn’t to be entirely trusted.

Throughout this second dialogue, the player can choose whatever path they want to explain Susan’s life. At the end, the doctor will corner and attack Susan. Nothing can be done about this.

6 Chapter 3 - Don’t Have A Mental Breakdown

The tasks at hand have to be done as to not raise her anxiety. Susan cannot use the kettle or shower without the electricity, therefore if the player tries to she will become upset. There is money in her bag in her bedroom. Once there is electricity, she will become stressed if in darkness. Turn lights on when entering rooms.

Showering, eating, and drinking are simple. Don’t use the wrong ingredients. Cigarettes and cat food are in the cupboard. A crow on the balcony will stress out Susan. Making a scarecrow will help, using a shirt, ball, and hat. A hat can be found in the hallway, a shirt in the second bedroom, and a ball in the closet. After smoking, there will be a knock at the door. Getting mad at the neighbor will increase stress, staying calm won’t. If the player manages to prevent Susan from breaking, they are eligible for the Golden ending (one of many endings).

5 Chapter 4 - Catnapped

Susan wakes up tied to a bloody table in a bloody room. The things the man says are foul and anyone playing would wish to never hear such things. This makes escaping and getting revenge all the more exciting.

When kidnapped, the man and his beau say abusive things to Susan from sexual to downright threatening. After the man’s wife pours bleach on Susan’s face, the player gains control of Teacup. As the cat, going through a hole in the wall and through air vents there will be another room. At the end of it is a key. Upon taking it the man will enter. Don’t get seen and go out the same way. Spit out the key for Susan and she will take off her handcuffs and take the gun, shooting herself.

4 Chapter 4 - Escape Pest Control

Susan needs to create a poisonous gas to kill the man. Bleach is one of the ingredients. This is in the pantry through the kitchen on the first floor. Grab the cloth as well. To find out the second ingredient for this gas, Susan needs to call Mitzi. Out the front door of the house will lie a van. Use a knife (found in the main floor kitchen) to take out a brick from the porch. The brick can break open the van’s window where a cellphone will be found. Go inside to the dark most-right room. Taking the bulbs from the front foyer, put them in the lamps so the room is bright. Use the cloth on the bulbs to take them. Get the phone book from the shelf and dial Susan’s apartment. The other ingredient is pesticide, in the room the wife is in.

Susan must distract the wife so that she leaves. The house’s phone number is written on the phone. Call it from the cellphone and hide. Hide under the dining table. The wife will pass, allowing access to the room. After doing this, hide there again until the wife returns. Susan now has everything she needs to create the poisonous gas. There is a vent in the man’s room that can be accessed from outside. Using a painting from the dining room, cover it. A gas mask is inside the van which needs a key. The key is inside a corpse’s mouth within one of the bathtubs. To reach the key, Susan needs a cat-grabber which is in the room outside of the torture chamber she woke up in. Put the mask on and fill the bucket with the bleach and pesticide to get rid of the parasite.

3 Chapter 6 - Joe’s Apartment

Mitski and Susan are on the hunt for The Eye Of Adam in Susan’s apartment building. When they enter a certain Joe Davis’ apartment, things aren’t what they seem.

The apartment is tarnished and dark with satanic symbolism. There is a laptop that needs power, making Mitzi leave for a power cable determined to get answers. Susan is alone and anxious in the apartment. The doorknob comes off the front door, which can be used for the door with numbers “666”. Inside is a power cord that can be taken. The apartment owner, Joe, comes back home. He intimidates Susan until she backs into a hole in the ground and falls.

2 Chapter 6 - Meet Ivy Davis

After Susan falls through a hole in Joe’s apartment, she awakes to find old memories. Memories of Ivy and Joe Davis. Susan opens three doors that spell “Devil came through here” where she then enters an apartment.

A different Joe stands by and pleads for help with his wife who is in the next room. The player can’t have a conversation with Ivy. Ivy only mentions the word misery. The player can find a book titled Misery in the bookshelf in the previous room. Inside it contains a screwdriver which opens a control panel in Ivy’s room that adjusts the mirrors angles. Aim every mirror directly at Ivy’s face, revealing a monstrosity that Joe claims is not his wife. He asks Susan to kill her. The player can do this with the power cord or refuse.

1 Chapter 7 - Meet The Eye Of Adam

Susan and Mitzi are invited to Flat 5 to speak with Adam. They meet Adam’s father who makes Susan privy to the fact that the boy has gassed the apartment. The player can choose to wear the gas mask themselves or give it to Mitzi. Mitzi will die if Susan wears it. Susan will come back to life if Mitzi wears it. Either way Adam’s father will die.

After the gas situation, either Susan alone will confront The Eye Of Adam, or both Mitzi and Susan will. If Mitzi died from the gas, the player gets to decide to kill Adam or not. If both of them survive the gas, the player has the option to convince Mitzi to shoot or not to shoot.
