Anyone that has played The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan to its conclusion will have known about The Dark Pictures: Little Hope since last year. Now the upcoming horror game is getting closer to release, and the developers at Supermassive Games will be releasing dev diaries in the weeks leading up to launch.

The first dev diary for The Dark Pictures: Little Hope touches on a variety of things about the game, including some of its big influences. In terms of real-life influences, The Dark Pictures: Little Hope story is clearly taking inspiration from the Salem Witch Trials, but it’s also taking some cues from horror movies like The Blair Witch Project, The Omen, and The Witch. As far as video games go, The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is taking inspiration from Silent Hill, which is evident by the fact that the characters are trapped in the titular town of Little Hope by a supernatural fog.

The first Dark Pictures: Little Hope dev diary also touches on some gameplay improvements that will be coming to the game. The main takeaway is that the game will have improved character movement and camera control, which should go a long way in making Dark Pictures: Little Hope’s minute to minute gameplay more enjoyable.

In the past, Supermassive has touched on other ways it will be improving players’ experience when it comes to The Dark Pictures: Little Hope. Apparently, Dark Pictures: Little Hope will tone down the QTEs, as well as improve the general pacing of the story. The developers are making these changes based on fan feedback, so response to The Dark Pictures: Little Hope could see changes made to the next game in the series as well.

While it had its critics, The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan was still an effective horror game, and its co-op options gave it a lot more replayability than most games in the genre. Supermassive has a solid track record so far, and it will be interesting to see if The Dark Pictures: Little Hope will be able to keep the studio’s momentum going or not.

The Dark Pictures: Little Hope will launch this summer for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
