A new gameplay trailer is out for the upcoming survival MMO The Day Before. FNTASTIC, the developers, have released a short snapshot of what players can expect when diving into the world of The Day Before.

From the early details, the game is aiming to bring multiplayer survival to a post-pandemic America. The remaining survivors will battle it out for food, weaponry, and vehicles to make it in a dangerous world. The Day Before will also be joining a list of zombie games on PC due to the infected enemy type that can appear in the title.

FNTASTIC describes the philosophy behind the game’s combat and points out that it is trying to capture human nature. While the team believes many people would help, some would take to violent means like in the video. From the start, fans can watch as the main player explores a ruined household in a third-person perspective. Searching for resources in vain, the survivor takes to the neighborhood streets outside. An eerie silence permeates throughout, and just as the player investigates a dead body, the shooting begins.

From there, the game becomes a fast-paced cover shooter in the barren roads of America. It seems like those playing the game will have access to different types of weaponry throughout, a nod towards customizing a unique playstyle. The battle continues until the main player shoots down the last attacker. From here, FNTASTIC reveals the brutality of The Day Before through a merciless execution shot. But just as things seem to settle down, a massive tank comes rolling in before the trailer cuts to black. Though it is hard to say whether this means there is some kind of permadeath mechanic like DayZ.

From the description of the game, The Day Before seems to be combining trends from popular games like The Last of Us. Fans will be able to enjoy survival mechanics along with other players or friends, plus an open world to explore and vehicles to traverse it. From the trailer, the graphics look to be fairly solid even with a focus on gritty realism. And with players able to enter individual buildings, there is a chance that exploration could be deep in the game.

That said, some players could be skeptical of the title from this reveal. Upon first glance, the game looks incredibly similar to Ubisoft’s The Division series and even has a similar plot. While the world looks good, there were also a lot of repetitive designs for structures and vehicles. To make matters worse, the battle itself did not look too exciting with the small group of enemies dropping quickly. Nevertheless, the release date is not even known yet so The Day Before still has plenty of time to prove itself.

The Day Before is currently in development for PC, planned for release in Q2 2021.
