Following his amazing performance as Vaas in Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3, voice actor Michael Mando speaks on his return to the successful Ubisoft franchise on an AMA on Reddit.
Known for his role in the 2015 TV show Better Call Saul, Michael Mando has his share of credits in gaming pop culture as well. Playing the role and in turn, co-developing Ubisoft’s most loved game antagonist, Vaas Montenegro’s character gave Far Cry 3 its much needed atmosphere for philosophical turmoil with the memorable insanity speech. The voice actor gave such a performance that the later titles: Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, and Far Cry: New Dawn are often compared to Far Cry 3 mainly due to Vaas.
It is for this reason that the actor hinting at a return to the Far Cry series has caused quite the commotion on Reddit. Mando’s Reddit post received numerous questions asking for updates on his roles ranging from Nacho in Better Call Saul to Scorpion in Spiderman: Homecoming, and of course Vaas from Far Cry 3.
One comment from Reddit user Justabearda asked if the actor was still recognized as Vaas, or if his role as Nacho overshadowed that alter-ego already. The actor responded with a happy excited tone thanking the Reddit user for his acknowledgement of the Vaas role, and proceeded to hint at his potential return to Far Cry. Although it is uncertain if Michael will return as Vaas, or as a different character. What’s more uncertain is if he would return as an antagonist.
Michael has brought life not only to Far Cry 3, but to the whole franchise as well. Succeeding antagonists like Pagan Min and Joseph Seed seemed to have taken from this effective formula of a philosophically experimental yet good-willed villain, but have not come close to the character Michael has poured and developed for the insane Vaas. It seems that Ubisoft’s been insane enough to recreate the character over and over and over again, expecting stuff to change.
With Michael’s return, it could definitely bring some novelty to Ubisoft and create more memorable scenes like the insanity monologue.
