Ubisoft has revealed a generous amount of details regarding The Division 2 since its confirmation a few weeks ago. Today during their E3 press conference, Ubisoft also detailed Specializations, a new type of character progression Divison agents will have to choose after completing The Division 2’s main story.

Players will choose between 3 different specializations: Sharpshooter, Demolitionist, or Survivalist. Each specialization will offer a unique approach to how players progress and play through the end game content, including The Division 2’s all-new 8-man raids.

After completing the campaign, players will choose a signature weapon, a powerful new type of weapon designed to determine your specialization and help harmonize a group of agents. As players progress through a specialization, they’ll also gain access to new skills and pieces of tech, which should help differentiate the classes even further.

Ubisoft didn’t go into detail about what each specialization will be good at, but its safe to assume there will be the standard DPS, Tank, and Healer roles seen is most games. There’s also the possibility Ubisoft will try something radically different to differentiate the game from other titles currently on the market. Either way, this new mechanic should have a pretty drastic effect on how players tackle various situations and may even cause some neat ripple effects if the Dark Zone makes a return.

Ubisoft has a lot riding on The Division 2 if they wish to remain relevant in the lifestyle shooter genre. With Destiny 2 and EA’s upcoming Anthem offering some pretty serious competition, it’s important that The Division 2 launch in a solid state and provide a world-class endgame experience. Luckily, Ubisoft’s focus on the title throughout this year’s E3 and post-launch support of the original game seem to indicate an intention to get the game right this time around.

While Ubisoft has only shown a small amount of gameplay, The Division 2 is looking to be a large improvement over its predecessor, which launched to complaints about repetitive gameplay and downgraded graphics. Ubisoft will definitely share more information as the game gets closer to launch.

The Division 2 will launch on March 15, 2019, for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
