At E3 2018, Ubisoft is giving fans its very first look at The Division 2. The company first showed off the game as part of the Microsoft E3 2018 press conference, where it revealed the very first gameplay trailer for the hotly anticipated third-person shooter title. But that’s not all that Ubisoft had to share about the game during the show, with the company also announcing The Division 2 release date.

In a post published to Twitter alongside the new gameplay footage, Ubisoft confirmed that The Division 2 release date is March 15, 2019. The game will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The release date is largely what fans expected. Ubisoft had previously confirmed that the game would launch before April 2019 and few fans were expecting it to launch sooner than 2018, meaning that the March release date is no surprise.

Fans of the first Division game will be delighted that the game is coming out in less than a year. Developer Massive Entertainment has already teased that the game will make huge improvements on the first, including the way that post-launch content is released. It also sounds as though the developer has taken significant effort to address player feedback from the first game, by making key changes to the follow-up. As such, fans are excited to see how these changes will be implemented and that they won’t have too long to wait to test out the improvements for themselves.

However, the release date means that The Division 2 launches in the wake of several other hotly anticipated studios. The Anthem release date was just announced, confirming that BioWare’s sci-fi RPG will be out in February, for example. Metro Exodus, which also featured during the Microsoft E3 2018 press conference, will also be released in February, as will PS4 exclusive Days Gone. It means that The Division 2 will face a significant amount of competition.

The potential competition between The Divison 2 and Anthem has already been explored and the suggestion is that The Division 2 has an advantage because it is a new game in an existing franchise rather than a new IP. But the other games listed are either sequels or have the full backing of a platform holder as a platform exclusive, meaning that it will be incredibly tough for the Ubisoft-made shooter to stand out among the growing crowd.

The Division 2 will be released on March 19, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
