As a prelude to The Division 2’s upcoming Open Beta, Ubisoft has launched a short, closed Technical Test that starts today and runs through Friday, February 22. The 48-hour Technical Test is designed to put The Division 2’s current beta build through its paces in preparation the larger Open Beta test, which is to run between March 1 and March 4. Invitations for The Division 2’s Technical Test have already been sent out to a selection of PC players who either registered for the beta or pre-ordered the game.

Due to the nature of the Technical Test, it will be solely available to players on the PC platform. The Open Beta continues to be planned to support all The Division 2 platforms, so PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will simply have to wait an additional week in order to play.

However, the Technical Test is not under an NDA. So, players are free to stream their gameplay, and fans can check out the action on streaming websites for themselves.

The Division 2’s Technical Test is intended purely as a preparation for the upcoming Open Beta, the latter of which will have many more players included. The Private Beta was held between February 7 and February 11, and so developer Massive Entertainment was able to create a number of fixes based on issues from the beta. Before starting the Open Beta, however, Massive wants to test those fixes in a public environment.

Just to make clear how the Technical Test is intended solely to try out some fixes for the Open Beta and not as a privileged reward for PC players, it has been heavily stripped of content. Compared to the Private Beta, The Division 2’s Technical Test will not have any of the Dark Zone or Conflict PvP content, nor will it have the exclusive Endgame characters and mission.

What’s more is that even the Photo Mode has been removed. There’s still plenty of content to be found in the story and missions kept over, but it’s still stripped bare compared to The Division 2’s Private Beta and the upcoming Open Beta. Nevertheless, Technical Test invitees should see the game available in their Uplay libraries.

The Division 2 releases March 15, 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
