In The Division 2, players have more than just guns and grenades at their disposal. They also have eight different skills that they can unlock by completing main story missions, all of which have their own subcategories that give them different abilities. Choosing the right skills in The Division 2 can go a long way in helping players take out enemies and complete missions, and so it’s important for players to unlock the best skills first.

While there is some debate as to what the best skills to unlock are in The Division 2, we selected these skills based on our time with the game. Of course, players will want to take into account the skills that their teammates have unlocked as well, and should keep in mind that they can only have two skills equipped at a time. Something else that will play a role is any given player’s particular playstyle, and so they should experiment as much as they can to figure out which skills work best for them.

1. Turret (Assault)

We recommend The Division 2 players, especially those playing solo, unlock the Turret skill fairly early on. The Turret can be deployed on top of cover, and can protect players whenever enemies try to charge or flank them. We found the Assault Turret variant to be of the most useful, especially in close-quarters situations.

2. Drone (Striker)

If players don’t unlock the Turret skill in The Division 2, it would be a good idea to unlock the Striker Done. The Striker Drone is one of the best skills in the game, as it can essentially serve as an extra squad member, flying around and attacking enemies at will or as marked by the player. And similarly to the Turret, it’s a good choice for those playing solo, as it will distract the enemies and deal damage to them simultaneously.

3. Chem Launcher (Riot Foam)

Honestly, all of the Chem Launcher variants have their uses, but the Riot Foam is great when setting up combos with other skills. For example, players can stop a group of enemies in their tracks with the foam, leaving them completely vulnerable to a Turret attack or making it impossible for them to dive away from grenades.

4. Hive (Stinger)

When it comes to pure destruction, the Stinger Hive is hard to beat. It can be absolutely devastating for any group of enemies, but it does come with a big drawback, though, and that is its long cooldown timer.

5. Seeker Mine (Cluster)

The Explosive variant of the Seeker Mine is very useful when it comes to taking out armored foes and the like, but players can get specializations that will fill that role in the endgame, and so the Cluster Seeker Mines have more uses in The Division 2. The Seeker Mine can be used in tandem with the Riot Foam, which will make sure all enemies targeted by the Seeker Mine stay in place and can’t get away from the impending explosion.

6. Pulse (Scanner)

Both the Scanner Pulse and the Remote Sensor Scanner are good options for any Division 2 player. However, we think that the Scanner Pulse is ultimately the better option, as players can quickly use it with one tap of a button and they don’t have to worry about throwing it anywhere.

7. Shield (Ballistic Bulwark)

While The Division 2 players should obtain the other skills first, once they do decide to unlock the Shield, they should go with the Ballistic Bulwark variant. The Ballistic Bulwark provides the most protection possible, and while it limits players to only using sidearms, the added defense is a fine trade-off. However, since Washington, D.C. is filled with objects that The Division 2 players can easily use for cover, the shield can be a little redundant compared to some of the other skills in the game.

8. Firefly (Blinder)

We recommend The Division 2 players unlock the Firefly skill last, and once they do, they should go with the Blinder version. The Firefly is simply more difficult to use as effectively as the other skills, and so skill slots are best reserved for some of the other skills in the game.
