Publisher and developer Ubisoft reveals that the open beta for its military shooter The Division brings 6.4 million players to the game over the weekend.
With roughly 6.4 million players taking part in Ubisoft’s open beta for The Division from Friday, February 19 through Sunday, February 21, it’s obvious that plenty of fans are interested in the forthcoming open world title. For those unaware, the test for the game took place on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (it went live on Microsoft’s console a day earlier than other systems) but the studio didn’t provide in-depth details regarding which platform garnered the most gamers.
Ubisoft did, however, reveal that each individual player logged close to five hours of total time taking part in The Division’s gameplay in its post-pandemic New York City setting. Bearing all of this in mind, the publisher and developer is now content to claim that the open beta for the action-RPG ended up being the biggest for a new franchise on current generation platforms.
As far as more specific figures go, Ubisoft has revealed that the Dark Zone was one of the most popular areas of the The Division’s decaying NYC, as players spent an average of 2 hours within the PvP spot. Interestingly enough, while in the Dark Zone, nearly 50% of agents went Rogue in the process, giving them a chance at higher rewards for going it alone against The Division’s other teams and solo players. Plus, for those looking for truly astronomical numbers, exactly 63,309,800 contaminated items successfully made their way out of the Dark Zone due to gamers’ extractions.
With The Division’s release date a little over two weeks away, it seems as if Ubisoft’s military-styled MMO is definitely on the right track in terms of serving up what shooter fans want. Of course, with about half a month left to go before it launches, developers will surely use the data taken from the open beta as way to improve any faults in the game, while also taking player feedback into account in order to ensure an enjoyable experience for newbies and veterans alike.
Considering the fact that The Division encountered delay after delay since it was announced as a release at E3 2013, it’s understandable why so many folks have been clamoring for any news regarding the title, and have thus made it one of the most anticipated video games of 2016. So, bearing any major setbacks, The Division will be here soon enough.
Nevertheless, there will definitely be some who either don’t quite connect with what The Division has to offer, or have simply been unlucky enough to miss out on events such as the weekend open beta. And although it’s no substitution for actually playing through a game, at least there’s now plenty of recorded footage of what can be expected once The Division does become available to give gamers a better idea of its materials. With that in mind, anyone who may have not had their ticket for The Division hype train stamped yet should check out this late game mission video to see if it’s worth climbing aboard.
The Division is set to release on March 8, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
