Following the massive success of Ubisoft’s open beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division, expectations were high for the game to be a huge hit. Upon its release a few weeks ago, The Division didn’t disappoint, as not only did the game set a new UK sales record for the first three months of any year, it managed to break Ubisoft’s and the industry’s first week sales record for a new IP. And now, The Division has managed to claim yet another accolade on Xbox One.

According to Xbox Live’s public-facing charts, The Division has managed to topple the massively popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 as the most popular game on Xbox One. Given just how big the Call of Duty franchise is, and the fact that Black Ops 3 was the best selling game of 2015, having The Division top Xbox Live’s popularity charts is no small feat.

With that much momentum behind The Division, the question is whether it can sustain this run of popularity. With a solid year-long DLC plan, it appears that Ubisoft will be riding this wave of success for a while yet. For Xbox owners, they’ll have the luxury of receiving The Division’s DLC expansions one month earlier than anyone else, so at the very least, the game’s position at the top of the Xbox Live charts shouldn’t be threatened any time soon.

Despite some first day server issues, The Division’s massive success is some much-needed good news for Ubisoft. After Ubisoft revealed last month that the Assassin’s Creed franchise may not return to its usual annual release cycle, news broke that the developer and publisher were being bought out in a hostile takeover by the mass media company Vivendi. Thankfully for gamers everywhere, Vivendi’s hostile takeover hasn’t affected The Division’s post-release plans or popularity in any way just yet.

Just a few days ago, Ubisoft revealed that the first update for The Division is arriving some time this week, so expect a series of minor bug fixes and balance tweaks. While waiting for that update, players can preoccupy themselves by working on their solo builds, or perhaps they might fancy looking for those lucrative loot caves that have been sprinkled throughout The Division’s massive map.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
