Fortnite’s first live event in eight months took place today, and it might have been the most epic in-game event to date.

As was the case with the first season of Fortnite Chapter 2, the second season has been subject to a number of delays. However, those delays finally appear to be over and done with. Plus, unlike season one, season two has inched closer to its climax via a pretty epic in-game event. However, not everyone was lucky enough to experience it live.

Epic recommended players login 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure they made it into the event, as this one had a maximum capacity. However, the demand for spots was so large that players have reported on social media even logging in 30 minutes before the start of the event wasn’t early enough. The start was even pushed back by five minutes, presumably while Epic made sure as many players could watch as possible.

On the bright side, even those who didn’t make it into the game had plenty of places to watch along live. They will have seen the countdown clock hit zero and the hatches dotted around The Agency rise up out of the water. The Agency itself was then engulfed in electricity before exploding. The infamous Doomsday Device then rose up out of the rubble, connecting to the hatches and pushing back the storm.

Players were then transported to an office for the first of three times. When they were returned to the map, all seemed well, until The Device kicked in again and pushed the storm back for a second time. That prompted the second trip to the mysterious office. Another return to the map, and this time the storm had been turned into a giant wall of water, reaching all the way up to the sky. Massive sharks could be seen swimming within it.

On the third trip back to the office, a suited-up Jonesy walked in and was startled by the players’ presence. He didn’t understand how they were there, and questioned if they could hear him. That prompted the final return to the map where the switch to a water-based storm appeared to be a permanent one. Players are now on the Battle Bus, which is now hovering above the surface of the water wall, as was suggested by the leaked image weeks ago. Players can enter the water, but as was the case with the storm, it will slowly deplete their health until they make it out.
