The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim boasts not one but two large pantheons of gods, the eight divines and the Daedra, and the Daedric pantheon comes with a series of quests for players to complete. Even better, those quests yield and special Daedric artifacts as rewards.
The Daedric Princes represent the most powerful of the Daedra in existence, and are therefore sometimes worshipped as gods by mortals. There are seventeen Daedric Princes in total, and sixteen artifacts up for grabs throughout Skyrim and its many quests; as such, here’s a handy guide for every artifact available to find (and how to get it) in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Azura’s Star/The Black Star
Azura’s Star is a great artifact for recharging magical items or enchanting, as it has the ability to capture white souls (those of non-sentient creatures). It’s essentially a reusable soul gem that can be emptied and refilled without being destroyed. Alternatively there’s the Black Star, which can capture white and black souls, or the souls of sentient beings. The Black Star acts like a black soul gem, and can hold up to grand-level souls in it.
Which star players get is dependent on who they bring it to in order to get it fixed: give it to Aranea Ienith at the Shrine of Azura to recieve Azura’s Star, or Nelacar in the Frozen Hearth Inn in Winterhold to get the Black Star. Either way, gaining the star is part of the quest “The Black Star,” which players can pick up by speaking to Aranea.
Dawnbreaker
Dawnbreaker is a magical sword from the Daedric Prince Meridia, which comes with the ability to set enemies on fire and deal extra damage to all undead monsters. It can also make undead explode into blue flames upon being killed, causing nearby undead to scatter. The blade can be gained by completing “The Break of Dawn,” a quest that players acquire in a random dungeon or barrow upon finding Meridia’s Beacon.
Ebony Blade
The Ebony Blade saps the health of enemies that it hits, and it can be upgraded- but only by killing friendly NPCs throughout the game. The weapon increases in power by two for every two friendly people killed, to a maximum of 30. It’s a reward for completing Mephala’s quest “The Whispering Door.”
Ebony Mail
The Ebony Mail is heavy armor that aids players in sneaking, granting the “muffle” effect and producing a shadowy effect while sneaking. It also inflicts 5 poison damage per second to nearby enemies. The armor is a reward for completing the “Boethiah’s Calling” quest.
Mace of Molag Bal
The Mace of Molag Bal is a gift from the Daedric Prince himself after completing the quest “The House of Horrors,” available from the first time players arrive in Markarth. The mace does 25 points of stamina and magicka damage per hit, and steals the soul of any enemy who dies within three seconds.
Masque of Clavicus Vile
The Masque of Clavicus Vile is enchanted with a number of qualities, including: all prices are 20% better, the wearer’s speech skill is increased by 10 points, and the wearer’s magicka regenerates 5% faster.
The masque counts as a heavy armor helmet. Players get this artifact for completing “A Daedra’s Best Friend” quest, but only if they refuse to kill Barbas with Vile’s axe and give it back to Vile instead.
Mehrunes’ Razor
Mehrunes’ Razor is a deadly dagger with an enchantment that gives it a 1.98% chance to instantly kill any enemy–with the exception of Miraak and Karstaag. Players get the dagger after completing “Pieces of the Past,” available at the museum in Dawnstar (players should recieve a flyer for the museum by courier).
Oghma Infinium
After completing the quest “Discerning the Transmundane,” the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora will give players the Oghma Infinium, a powerful book filled with the knowledge of the universe. Using the book will grant a permanent 5-point boost to all skills falling under one of the three main “classes”: mage, thief, or warrior.
Ring of Namira
The Ring of Namira is a particularly nasty Daedric artifact that players get as a reward for completing the “Taste of Death” quest. While waring the Ring of Namira, feeding on corpses grants +50 health and +50% health regeneration.
Sanguine Rose
The Sanguine Rose is a unique staff given as a reward for completing the quest “A Night to Remember.” All players need to do to get the quest is accept when Sam Guevenne challenges them to a drinking contest. The Sanguine Rose can be used to summon a leveled dremora that fights for the player for 60 seconds.
Savior’s Hide/Ring of Hircine
Either of these items can be given as a reward for completing “Ill Met by Moonlight,” available in Falkreath village; it depends on what the player decides to do. Killing Sinding yields the Savior’s Hide, a unique light armor that increases magic resistance by 15% and poison resistance by 50%. Conversely, the Ring of Hircine can be obtained if the player helps Sinding, and it grants the wearer unlimited werewolf transformations per day. However, it only works if the wearer is already a werewolf.
Skeleton Key
The Skeleton Key is Nocturnal’s artifact, and it’s essentially a decorative unbreakable lockpick. However, it doesn’t count towards the “Oblivion Walker” achievement, since players aren’t necessarily supposed to keep it indefinitely. The key is acquired during the Thieves’ Guild quest “Blindsighted,” but it is intended to be returned to Nocturnal’s Twilight Sepulcher as part of the questline.
Players wishing the keep the Skeleton Key can simply refrain from completing the Thieves’ Guild series of quests.
Skull of Corruption
The Skull of Corruption is a reward for completing the “Waking Nightmare” quest, available in Dawnstar, but it’s only given if players choose the “evil” ending and kill Erandur at Vaermina’s command. The Skull is a staff that deals 20 points of damage, but that damage escalates to 50 when the staff is powered with the dreams collected from sleeping people.
Spellbreaker
Spellbreaker is a unique shield and artifact of the Daedric Prince Peryite, awarded to players for completing the quest “The Only Cure.” In addition to functioning as a shield, it also produced something akin to a Ward spell that protects the wearer for 50 points of magic damage.
Volendrung
“The Cursed Tribe” is a Daedric quest involving an orc tribe and the Daedra lord Malacath; completing the quest results in being awarded Volendrung, a unique warhammer that absorbs 50 points of stamina per hit. It’s especially useful because, as a two-handed weapon, it requires a great deal of stamina to wield.
Wabbajack
The Wabbajack is a gift of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of madness. Upon completion of “The Mind of Madness,” a quest available in Solitude, players will be awarded the Wabbajack: a unique staff with the ability to cast a random spell whose effect ranges from random destruction to healing enemies, or even transforming enemies into other creatures, making the staff as dangerous as it is useful.
