While it’s still a long way off, The Elder Scrolls 6 may feature a tribute to a deceased fan. Nothing has been set in stone yet, but Bethesda has formally responded to a request from the fan’s girlfriend, with the company asking for additional details about the fan, though not being able to promise the addition in an official capacity.
The fan in question is Colton ‘Colt’ Meredith, whose final Facebook post before his death stated that he would “give up literally anything to just be in Skyrim.” Meredith committed suicide shortly after. He was 24 years old. Meredith’s girlfriend, Raven Ash, uploaded a screenshot of the post to Twitter, as well as images of Meredith recreated in Skyrim using the character creator.
Ash’s tweets soon went viral, garnering attention and a positive response from fans of the series. On September 5, Ash shared the response from Bethesda’s official Twitter account, thanking everyone for their help in getting the situation noticed, but acknowledging that nothing was guaranteed to happen as of now. Additional replies have urged Bethesda to implement Meredith in the game, and earned an outpouring of support.
A follow-up tweet contained the body of an email sent to Bethesda, which urged the company to use the potential implementation to raise suicide awareness, potentially with a line like “You’re not alone, remember to reach out for help when you need it,” and thanked the company for considering it. “If it helps even on person it is so worth it,” the text of the Tweet reads.
Bethesda has implemented fans into its games in the past, and there’s already a confirmation that Skyrim Grandma Shirley Curry will be added to Elder Scrolls 6. Therefore, it isn’t out of the question that the tribute to Meredith will make it into the game, and if it fans are receptive enough to the idea, Bethesda may very well move forward with it.
Of course, things change and Elder Scrolls 6 won’t release for a few years, judging by Bethesda’s silence on the project, and the fact that Starfield will release first. It’s understandable, then, that Bethesda can’t promise the addition will be made, even if it’s a wonderful way to pay homage to a fan. Its unlikely fans will know how — or if — Meredith will be included in the game until it releases.
