The Elder Scrolls Online doesn’t launch its Blackwood Chapter until June, but as of today, you can jump into the Blackwood Prologue free of charge. This short questline sees you helping Lyranth and Eveli Sharp-Arrow investigate a sinister Daedric cult – and progresses the year-long Gates of Oblivion story.

To check out the Prologue content, head to the Crown Store and navigate to the Quest Starters section. From there you’ll be able to pick up “A Mortal’s Touch” mission. The quest is available to all players, even those who are playing during the free trial event.

Complete the Blackwood Prologue and you’ll get the Daedric Unwarding Amulet memento.

The Elder Scrolls Online is gearing up for an action-packed summer, as the game is not only getting the Blackwood Chapter expansion in June, but you’ll also see the MMO arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Dubbed ESO: Console Enhanced, you’ll benefit from increased performance and visual fidelity when playing on new-gen consoles.

Blackwood recently received a gameplay trailer, showing off a bit of the Daedric action you’ll get into later this year. The trailer also showed off its new Companion system – giving you an NPC buddy that will follow you on your adventures. These characters have their own sets of likes and dislikes, so you’ll need to be careful what you do while they’re watching.

Companions also come with a set of unlockable skills, each of which can be slotted into their ability bar for use in combat. You’ll need to pay close attention to how you slot them, however, as your Companion will try to activate them in a specific order. We won’t know how this all plays out until we go hands-on with the game, but so far it’s shaping up to be a fun new mechanic.

The Elder Scrolls Online Blackwood Prologue is now available to all players, with the paid Blackwood Chapter to follow in June.
