The Broadway sensation Hamilton was a rip-roaring event for those who were lucky enough to see it live. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical has now been given a wider audience, thanks to Disney+’s live recording, which has piqued the interest of creative fans who wish to pay tribute.
One such fan has dedicated the past seven months to recreating the musical in full in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Guitar_Knight14 is the driven creator behind the mammoth task of reimagining the entire Hamilton show within the life sim. Act 1 has already been completed and uploaded, and the full act - lasting one hour and fifteen minutes - is worth watching from beginning to end.
Your mind may immediately turn to the limitations that Animal Crossing presents when attempting to recreate live-action material. However, the impeccable timing, stage presence, and poignancy that’s conveyed on the animated stage is nothing short of genius. Set to the real Hamilton soundtrack, characters including Stu, Raymond, and Audie can be seen contributing to the group numbers and dance routines, accumulating an engaging performance that feels nothing like the parody that it is.
The track Schuyler Defeated is the latest segment to be uploaded, and the creator has already started work on Act 2. In addition to tallying up the creator’s view count, further installments of this project can also be supported through the creator’s Patreon.
New Horizons has recently been the game of choice in which to recreate your favorite pockets of pop culture. Leslie Knope’s office from Parks and Recreation was built down to the last detail - with the exception of Larry Byrd’s autographed photo - and another fan designed a homely mirror of Link’s house from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The latter was a festive treat for fans to soak up during the holiday season, complete with a hearty Christmas tree amongst Link’s swords and shields.
In addition to capturing the hearts of Animal Crossing fans, Hamilton will also be branching out with its own line of Funko Pops. The titular Alexander Hamilton will be receiving one figure in his burgundy coat, with another blue version exclusively from Walmart. Aaron Burr, The Schulyer Sisters, and George Washington will also be turning vinyl for fans to display proudly.
