Although the existence of a sequel to The Evil Within was confirmed by early advertisements before Bethesda was able to reveal the game at its E3 2017 conference, the studio still pulled back the curtains on the title with gusto via a slick announcement trailer. Simply titled The Evil Within 2, Bethesda aims to deliver a solid follow up to the 2014 smash hit horror that was helmed by Resident Evil alumni Shinji Mikami. It was his first large project with newbie studio Tango Gameworks, but Bethesda was evidently happy with the results.
The world’s first look at The Evil Within 2 opens up to to quite a lucid dream-like sequence, with enough liquid-powered horror to give Death Stranding a run for its money. The trailer shows the protagonist rushing into a burning building and reaching towards a doll, before being sucked into a realm of time-freezing horrors, groping hands, and a daughter in desperate need of rescue. With pitch-black forests and an ominous villain, the sequel seems to be chock-full of classic horror hallmarks.

Bethesda has confirmed that The Evil Within 2 will release on October 13, 2017, which in true horror fashion happens to land on a Friday. The small wait time ahead of the game’s release falls in line with Todd Howard’s mandate of minimizing the time between a game’s announcement and its release, which will allow horror fans to get what looks to be a highly polished mind trip in time for the holiday season.
The first entry to the series had received some mixed reactions among horror fans, so there’s evidently some room for improvement the second time around. While the premise of a man trying to rescue a child isn’t exactly new territory in the horror genre, Bethesda evidently has faith that The Evil Within 2 can deliver a polished and frightening experience for horror fans around the globe. We will keep you posted as more news about The Evil Within 2 becomes available.
