Bethesda’s first-ever E3 showcase set the tone for the entirety of E3 2015, with the esteemed publisher unveiling new footage of Fallout 4 and a Fallout spin-off mobile game, Fallout Shelter. If that weren’t enough for Fallout fans, Bethesda made many wasteland travelers happy by announcing that they would be releasing an official, functioning Pip-Boy, bundled with a copy of Fallout 4.
The Pip-Boy Edition went up for pre-order right away at multiple retailers, and many Fallout 4 fans and collectors scrambled to reserve a copy. However, for gamers who didn’t leap at the chance, it may already be too late - a recent tweet from Pete Hines has confirmed that the supply is limited.
Pete Hines, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for Bethesda, released a tweet detailing the supply of the Pip-Boy editions of Fallout 4. Similarly to Fallout 4 itself, which is basically complete, it would appear that the production of real Pip-Boys is done, and no more will be manufactured. However, the tweet also gave some hope to consumers, pointing out that just because all of the Pip-Boys have been distributed doesn’t mean that every retailer has placed their entire supply up for sale yet.

While there’s no way to know which retailers may have already placed all of their copies up for pre-order and which haven’t, eager fans may still be able to find a copy once Fallout 4 goes on sale in retail stores this November.
While gamers who were interested but hesitated to pre-order the Pip-Boy edition of Fallout 4 may be disappointed to know that their chances of being able to buy one are now slim, it doesn’t come as a big surprise. This edition is somewhat unusual, in that the Pip-Boy itself isn’t just a display prop, but actually interfaces with the game. One can imagine that has made many gamers who normally don’t buy Collector’s Editions eager to get one, increasing demand further.
Furthermore, while most Collector’s Editions produce high demand for a limited number of copies, Fallout fans can at least be glad that Bethesda didn’t take it a step further. For example, some companies have even gone so far as to release just one extremely high-priced Collector’s Edition of their games, like the absurd Saints Row IV $1 million dollar Collector’s Edition.
While a certain Fallout fan may have been able to purchase a copy of Fallout 4 using real bottlecaps, once the stock of the Pip-Boys is gone, it’s gone. If you’re still looking to get a Pip-Boy for yourself, time is running out before online resellers are your only option.
Fallout 4 will be released on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
