Fate/Grand Order - Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot, a two-part anime film adaptation of the role-playing mobile game, which was originally slated to premiere on August 15, has been delayed to December 5, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, Japan was forced into a State of Emergency when outbreaks of the coronavirus began appearing in Tokyo and other metropolitan areas. The country, which has managed to get its transmission rate under control, has now allowed entertainment companies to return to work. In the US, numerous highly anticipated films, like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, have also delayed their release dates as a result of the pandemic.
This weekend, Aniplex+, an anime and music production company owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, started selling advance ticket passes for Fate/Grand Order along with acrylic mascots. The promotion includes illustrations of the characters who are wearing the traditional summer Japanese yukata kimono.
The films star Mamoru Miyano as Bedivere, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Ritsuka Fujimaru, and Rie Takahashi as Mash Kyrielight, as well as, Maaya Sakamoto as Leonardo da Vinci, Ayako Kawasumi as Lion King, Takahiro Mizushima as Gawain and Ryotaro Okiayu as Lancelot, among countless others.
The first film, which will be animated by Signal.MD, will be directed by Kei Suezawa, while Kazuto Arai will direct the second film, which will be animated by Production I.G. Aniplex+ launched the Japanese version of the Fate/Grand Order smartphone game in 2015. The game was released in the United States and Canada two years later. As of 2019, the game had grossed more than $4 billion worldwide.
Fate/Grand Order centers around turn-based combat where the player, who assumes the role of a Master, summons powerful Servants, who represent historical, literary, and mythological figures, to combat enemies. Presented in a visual novel format, the game allows players to explore the development of each Servant. The film is an adaptation of the game’s sixth Singularity, in which the kingdoms of Ancient Egypt and Camelot battle outside their own time in Jerusalem in 1273 AD.
